VRP Legal Director States the President's Election Fraud Allegations are a Disservice to our Democracy

The president caused a stir with his election fraud speech, generating public discussion on voting machines and voter rolls. VRP legal director Chad Dunn maintains that, "This kind of communication misleads Americans..."

Petteway v. Galveston County

After weeks of extensive briefing on new case law and a last minute new map enacted by Galveston County, UCLA VRP is preparing to argue that Galveston County intentionally discriminated against Black and Latino residents when enacting their prior redistricting plan, and that neither Callais nor the enactment of a new map by the commission prevents the court from making a finding in favor of plaintiffs. The argument is scheduled for July 28, 2026 in Galveston, Texas in front of Judge Jeffrey V. Brown.

Republicans admit they committed one instance of voter fraud, yet there is zero evidence of any widespread fraud in California. VRP faculty director Matt Barreto explains to the San Francisco Chronicle:

“There is zero evidence — zero — of any widespread voter fraud, of people attempting to cheat the
system in California. All you have are bad actors, typically on the right, attempting to commit voter fraud just to prove that they could do it,” Barreto said.

Ananya Hariharan had a paper accepted for publication in the Journal of Methods and Measurements in the Social Sciences on how scholars can recognize racially polarized voting in jurisdictions where traditional ecological inference models would render inconclusive results due to jurisdiction characteristics, like having few precincts.

Diego Casillas has a research paper accepted for publication in PS: Political Science & Politics documenting how anti-immigrant federal policy creates a chilling effect of withdrawal in immigrant communities, which was originally used in the New Jersey v. Trump lawsuit which upheld the constitutional right to birthright citizenship.
