Jefferey Moore Sellers, Political Science & International Relations, Public Policy, and Spatial Sciences, has received the Daniel Elazar Distinguished Scholar Award from the Federalism and Intergovernmental Relations Section of the American Political Science Association. Citing his most recent book, Multilevel Democracy: How Local Institutions and Civil Society Shape the Modern State (Cambridge University Press, 2020), the section noted Dr. Sellers’ work “truly spans the globe, [with the] unifying theme to approach problems and solutions through the eyes of the local community. Program: Curatorial Research Grants
Synopsis
: Supports institutions, galleries, or museums to help towards the costs of appointing a research curator to undertake research for a specific project, specifically (1) an exhibition or installation of British art or architecture, or a related topic; or (2) a cataloging project on part of a collection or archive that will result in a printed or online catalog. Alternatively, an institution may apply for a Curatorial Research Grant to provide replacement staff costs and give temporary cover for a curatorial staff member to work on a specific exhibition or cataloging project. Eligible projects include research, educational activities, and the dissemination of knowledge in the fields of British art and architectural history, from the medieval period to the present day and across the spectrum of relevant geographical and cultural contexts.

Synopsis
: Supports basic science, ideally with potential translational applications. As technology continues to advance, it is apparent that investigations in the area of basic science and translational research may become more and more reliant on collaborative, interdisciplinary projects. Any interdisciplinary project proposals may require additional information regarding the collaborator(s)’ achievements and relevant expertise. Examples of currently funded research projects include Immunology, microbiome, genomics, structural biology, cellular physiology, neuroscience, etc. Projects NOT considered for funding include Covid-related research, medical imaging technologies, Plant Biology Research, Oceanography, Space Exploration. and Global Warming related research will not be considered for support.

Synopsis

Program: 2024-2025 Society Fellowships
Synopsis
: Supports scholars and artists whose projects will focus on the  2024-2025 theme of “Silence” for residential fellowships. Fellows will collaborate with one another and the Taylor Family Director of the Paul Fleming, L. Sanford and Jo Mills Reis Professor of Humanities and professor of comparative Literature and German Studies. Fellows spend their time in research and writing during the residential fellowship and are required to participate in a weekly Fellows Seminar workshopping each other’s projects and discussing readings based on the yearly theme. Fellows teach one small seminar during their fellowship year appropriate for graduate students and advanced undergraduates. Applicants must have received their Ph.D. before January 1, 2023,  and must have one or more years of teaching experience — which may include TA experience.
Award details: $60K for 1 year. 6 awards will be made.

New York Public Library
Program: 2024-2025 Cullman Fellowship (The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers offers Fellowships)
Synopsis
:  Supports outstanding scholars and writers—academics, independent scholars, journalists, creative writers (novelists, playwrights, poets), translators — whose work will benefit directly from access to the research collections at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. The Library is one of the world’s preeminent resources for study in anthropology, art, geography, history, languages and literature, philosophy, politics, popular culture, psychology, religion, sociology, sports, and urban studies. International scholars conversant in English are welcome to apply. Fellows will work primarily at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building rather than at other divisions of the Library. Fellows work at the Center for the duration of the Fellowship. Each Fellow gives a talk over lunch on his or her current work-in-progress to the other Fellows and to a wide range of invited guests and may be asked to take part in other programs at The New York Public Library.
Award details: The award consists of a stipend of up to $75K, the use of an office with a computer, and full access to the Library’s physical and electronic resources. Fellowship runs from September through May.

Getty Research Institute
Program: Getty Scholars Fellowship Program, Year 24-25
Synopsis
: Supports predoctoral, postdoctoral scholars for residence either at the Getty Center (predocs) or either the Getty Center or the Getty Villa for postdocs. The 24-25 theme for the Getty Villa is Anatolia: The Classical World in Context, an examination of relations between the Greek cities of western Asia Minor and Anatolian civilizations from the 2nd millennium to the Roman Imperial period. For the Getty Center, the theme is Extinction, the exploration of not only what is lost, but also the urgent impulse toward preservation and permanence. In addition to this annual theme, grants are available under the African American Art History Initiative (AAAHI) Fellowship at the Getty Center. This residential program provides financial support and housing to scholars who are expanding critical inquiry of African American art and its frameworks.
Award details: Getty Predoctoral Fellowship recipients receive a stipend of $30K. Getty Postdoctoral Fellowship recipients receive a stipend of $35K. Residential fellowships are for 9 months.

Program: Religion and Cultural Institutions Initiative
Synopsis
: Supports organizations that demonstrate a readiness and commitment to mount exhibitions and conduct educational programs on religion, as well as engage in other capacity-building activities, that portray the role religion has played and continues to play in the United States and around the world. The Endowment is especially interested in funding the planning, development, and implementation of projects on diverse religious traditions, beliefs, and practices that are: 1) fair, accurate, and balanced; 2) non-proselytizing and multivocal; 3) authentic; and 4) appreciative. The Endowment encourages organizations to submit concept papers that are aligned with their institutional and educational missions and appropriate for their visitors and constituencies.
Award details: Planning Grants of up to $100K. If awarded a planning grant, organizations may submit proposals for awards ranging up to $2.5M to execute their project.

Program: Faculty Fellowship
Synopsis
: Supports social science faculty at public and private institutions in Los Angeles and Southern California to encourage the study and research into the underlying causes of social problems in Los Angeles and to recommend ways of addressing them. The Foundation has funded hundreds of important urban studies in the areas of education, transportation, local government, elections, public safety, demographics, public personal services and natural resources.
Award details: $16K . The awards may be used as a faculty summer research stipend, to buy course relief or to cover other incidental research assistance and expenses (excluding equipment and hardware) which might be incurred throughout the year, or in some combination.

Synopsis
: Supports scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to the diversity and equal opportunity at UC.  The UC President's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program supports partner programs sponsored by the University of Michigan, the University of Colorado, individual UC campuses, and the UC-Affiliated National Laboratories. National Scleroderma Foundation
Program: Grants
Synopsis
: Supports the development of innovative, high-quality research by new and established investigators in fields related to scleroderma. To accomplish this goal, provided are funding for New Investigators who hold faculty or equivalent positions and who wish to pursue a career in research related to scleroderma and Established Investigators based on investigator-directed topics. This grant supports promising research that is likely to lead to individual research project grants. New Investigators must have completed a postdoctoral fellowship by the grant award date. Established Investigators may be from both inside and outside the field of scleroderma research who wish to propose pilot studies to obtain preliminary data dealing with a highly innovative and / or highly relevant theme related to the disease. This grant will support pilot research that is likely to lead to more substantial unlimited research project grants from federal or non-federal sources. Established investigators must have completed a postdoctoral fellowship, and have been principal investigators on grants from the National Scleroderma Foundation or other national, private, or government agencies in the past.
Award details: New Investigators:  Applicants may request up to $66,667 per year (this amount is to include budgeted indirect costs) for up to three years, with the total award not to exceed $200K. Established Investigators: The Established Investigator Award is a two-year award in the amount of $200K total. Applicants may request up to $100K per year (this amount is to include budgeted indirect costs) for up to two years, with the total award not to exceed $200,000. For both New and Established Investigator awards the indirect cost rate is 8%.

Synopsis: Supports projects that strengthen the U.S. healthcare system’s electronic infrastructure, ARPA-H DIGIHEALS , a digital health security project. DIGIHEALS aims to ensure patients continue to receive care in the wake of a widespread cyberattack on a medical facility — like those that have caused hospitals to close their doors permanently. By focusing on cutting-edge security protocols, vulnerability detection, and automatic patching, this effort seeks to reduce the ability of bad actors to attack digital health software and enable the prevention of large-scale cyber attacks. In addition to addressing cybersecurity vulnerabilities, the project aims to identify and fix software-related weaknesses that affect patient safety and experience. The project will look to fund proven technologies developed for national security and apply them to civilian health systems, clinical care facilities, and personal health devices.

Synopsis: Supports research to advance the interoperability of studies using electromagnetic waves, high-energy particles including neutrinos and cosmic rays, and gravitational waves to realize integrated, multi-messenger astrophysical explorations of the universe. The WoU-MMA program welcomes proposals in any area of research supported through the participating divisions that address at least one of the following criteria:
-  Coordination: Activities to coordinate observations involving more than one messenger;
-  Observations of astrophysical objects or phenomena that are potential sources of more than one messenger.
 -  Interpretation: Theory, experiment, simulations, and other activities to understand or interpret observations of astrophysical objects that are sources of more than one messenger.
The WoU-MMA program is not intended to replace existing programs that make awards that involve experimental or theoretical efforts related to each of the three messengers. Rather, the WoU-MMA program is meant to fund awards that have significant components of multi-messenger astrophysics.
