Skokie to Begin Water Main Assessment Work
|
-
Church Street & East Prairie Road
- Northshore Sculpture Park (McCormick Boulevard south of Golf Road)
|
Why it matters: These two locations were chosen because they are similar to the spot where the water main broke in February. The break happened at a joint where the pipe changes direction. The Village will check the pipes and replace parts to help prevent future problems.
What to know:
|
-
No water service interruptions are expected.
- Work starts July 23 at Church Street & East Prairie Road.
- Northshore Sculpture Park site will follow.
- All work expected to wrap by August 15.
|
-
East Prairie Road will be closed to through traffic between Golf Road and Church Street (local access only).
- Church Street remains open, but lanes will shift.
- McCormick Boulevard remains open but expect temporary lane closures.
- Northshore Sculpture Park trail will stay open.
|
Thank you for your patience during this critical infrastructure project.

Skokie’s Dengeos Featured for Iconic Gyros and Greek Roots
|
Beloved Skokie restaurant, Dengeos, is in the spotlight for its longtime role in Chicago’s Greek food scene. Open since 1972, Dengeos is known for its classic Chicago-style fare—hot dogs, beefs, sausages—but it’s the gyros that take center stage. Owner Nick Theodosis credits the restaurant’s success to its signature sizzling gyro cones and precision-shaving tool, the “Wizard.”
The Chicago Tribune feature (subscription required) highlights how Dengeos remains a standout, adapting through decades of change while honoring the immigrant roots that helped build the city's Greek dining tradition.
