The Colleges

Business Administration and Public Policy

  • The CBAPP Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Clinic not only provides free tax preparation for the community but also opens doors for student volunteers like Mario Canales-Sosa, who landed a full-time job with the IRS. The VITA strengthens both community and career connections, inviting firms like Deloitte to engage with volunteers as potential recruits.

Continuing and Professional Education

  • CCPE has operated an EMT training program for seven years. It is an intense certificate training program. Students who successfully complete the program are hired right away by south bay area ambulance companies.
  • View the YouTube  video for capstone project for the Meeting & Event Planning Certificate Program to see how students learn in and out of the classroom.

Education

Health, Human Services, and Nursing

  • Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLS): The Clinical Laboratory Sciences program is currently undergoing reaccreditation for its Medical Technology program through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
  • School of Nursing: Nursing faculty are strengthening partnerships between the RN-BSN pathway and local community college RN-ADN programs. These efforts increase the visibility of our fully online RN-BSN program, enabling practicing nurses to complete their BSN degrees while continuing to work full-time.
  • Department of Human Services: The Wellness Coach II program is designed to connect academic learning with professional credentials. The program prepares students for state certification and career advancement in Certified Wellness Coaching II (CWC-II). It strengthens our workforce pipeline and advances community well-being through applied, career-focused education.

Natural and Behavioral Sciences

  • In a new pilot class, Social Data Science, taught by Dr. Jeffrey K. Bye in Psychology, students learn applied data science skills. For their midterm project, students explore raw data provided by the Center for Sustainability and the Environment and Central Plant Operations to understand energy and utility usage on campus over time.
  • The Math Department hosts a Lunch and Learn series twice a semester for students to explore post-graduation options. In October, the first session introduced the new Data Science math concentration, highlighting its courses and career pathways. The second session, in November, focuses on the aerospace industry.
  • Each semester, the CSUDH-LACMA Visiting Scholars Program provides the opportunity for students to gain hands-on training in Museum Studies by working behind-the-scenes with curators and collections managers from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on their "Art of the Ancient Americas" collection.

There are also tours of exhibitions that feature primary source materials in the FDC’s Cultural Art Gallery. The fellows embarked on their first educational excursion to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum on November 1st. Students explored the historical and political legacy of one of the nation's former presidents, while examining the broader context of U.S. governance and public policy.

Center for Innovation in STEM Education (CISE)

The CISE T4E1 STEAM Max Program is a semester-long initiative that empowers students in grades 3–12 to become innovative problem-solvers through the Prototype App Design Challenge. Student teams identify a community issue and design a mobile app prototype as a solution.

Over the course of five sessions at CISE, students receive hands-on training in app development, storytelling, and public speaking. Instruction is co-led by CISE Fab Lab technicians.

The program culminates in the STEAM Max Showcase, where top teams from each school present their prototypes to educators, professionals, and community leaders. The program fosters creativity, technical expertise, and confidence while building pathways to college and STEM careers. To date, the T4E1 project has impacted over 26,800 students, with 3,219 participating in STEAM Max.

Accreditation Corner

As we continue advancing the vision outlined in our Going Far Together Strategic Plan, it is time to reaffirm who we are and how far we’ve come as a model urban university. CSUDH WSCUC (WASC) Reaffirmation Kick-Off Meeting is on Tuesday, November 18th, from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. via Zoom.

This meeting marks the start of our WSCUC (WASC) institutional self-study process, which will extend through Spring 2027 when the institutional report is due to WSCUC. Together, we will reflect on our mission, values, and institutional impact, showcasing the integrity, equity, and innovation that define the Toro experience.

Your participation is vital to ensuring this process reflects the voices, experiences, and achievements of our entire campus community. Please RSVP.

If you are interested in being involved, reach out to Michele Dunbar, WSCUC Accreditation Liaison Officer.
