The Sacramento State Police Department, collaborating with local first responders, will host a full-scale on-campus exercise for mutual aid and active shooter response, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2024. Training is planned for specified buildings and locations throughout campus. The goal is to better prepare Sacramento State police and other emergency personnel to respond to large-scale critical events that could threaten the campus community. The training exercise will be scenario-based and involve live role players simulating students, faculty, and staff in crisis. Only certain portions of each building will be closed for the training.
Scenario buildings identified are:
- Harper Alumni Center
- Benicia Hall
- Mariposa Hall
- UPDATE: Capistrano Hall
- Tschannen Science Complex (fourth floor, fifth floor, Planetarium)
- Parking Lot 8
- Parking Structure 3 (west side of first and second floors)
The campus community should be aware that a large presence of emergency and law enforcement personnel will be on campus during this training. To ensure the campus community’s safety, an abundance of training instructors, safety officers, signage, and visible caution tape will be present throughout the exercise.
Scenario training can be upsetting; however, the training is important so that campus safety personnel and local first responders are prepared if a real crisis happens. For those in need of support, please consider these Sacramento State resources:

All Sac State employees should watch the CSU Active Shooter Safety training on CSU Learn.
For students, auxiliary members, and community members, watch the CSU Active Shooter Safety training on YouTube.
Sac State faculty, staff, and administrators must also think about the continuity of the university in the aftermath of any large-scale emergency. All university divisions, departments, offices, and programs should have a Continuity Plan. You can find more information about continuity plans on the Emergency Management website here.
