FY27 Budget Adopted – Here Are the Highlights!
|
On Monday evening, the Village Board adopted the Village’s Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) Budget, supporting investments in public safety, critical infrastructure and economic vitality while continuing the Village’s long-standing commitment to responsible financial planning and stewardship of public resources.

The addition of a fourth ambulance during peak hours to meet an increased demand for emergency medical services
- Enhanced development services, including improvements to permitting and code enforcement processes to support safe housing
- Replacement of more lead water services in alignment with state and federal mandates

This past weekend, the Skokie Park District and the Village launched a community-wide campaign promoting safety, unity, respect and standing up for others in Skokie parks and throughout the community.
Stand Up Skokie: Take the online pledge to:

- Stand up to behavior that causes physical or emotional harm.

Look for Stand Up Skokie signage in parks, facilities and at community events throughout the summer as part of a shared effort to strengthen public safety, foster belonging and reinforce Skokie’s welcoming spirit.

Memorial Day Ceremony and Schedule
|
Skokie Village Hall will be closed on Monday, May 25 in honor of Memorial Day.
|
TRASH, RECYCLING AND YARD WASTE COLLECTION
|
Trash, recycling and yard waste collection will occur as follows during the week of May 25:
|
- Monday collections move to Tuesday
- Tuesday collections move to Wednesday
- Thursday and Friday collections occur as normal
- Yard waste collection moves to Saturday, May 30
|
Join us for the Village’s annual Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 25 at 11 a.m. on the Village Green, 5155 Oakton St.

- Celebrated the swearing in of three new Skokie police officers
- Approved a Retail Enhancement Program Grant to support the buildout of Dewey’s Barbeque, 5013-5019 Oakton St. (former Rich’s Britches location)
- Adopted the Village’s Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) Budget

Advanced an adjustment and extension of the Village’s Amusement Tax to include streaming services
- Advanced a request by Pickledilly LLC, 4919 Main St., to modify its special use permit to accommodate expansion

It’s National Public Works Week! Thank you to our hardworking team of professionals that keeps Skokie running – rain, snow or shine! From snow and ice control, to trash and yard waste pickup, to forestry, to water and sewer services, Skokie Public Works takes care of the things that help our community run smoothly every day.
Did you know: In 2003 the Village’s Public Works Department achieved accreditation from the American Public Works Association, giving Skokie its status as the first town in the country to achieve this level of professional accreditation.

New, Expanded and Relocating Skokie Businesses
|
Monday evening’s Board meeting included several exciting updates on businesses that are growing, investing and expanding in Skokie.

PICKLEDILLY PLANS EXPANSION
|
The Board advanced a request by Pickledilly, 4919 Main St., to expand its thriving indoor recreation facility to accommodate four additional full-size pickleball courts, a turf game area, restrooms, storage rooms and seating areas.
|
NORTH TEXAS BARBECUE PLANNED FOR OAKTON STREET
|
The Board approved a Retail Enhancement Program grant of up to $75,000 to support the buildout of Dewey’s Barbecue at 5013-5019 Oakton St., the former Rich’s Britches location. Retail Enhancement Program grants are provided on a rebate basis after work is complete and the business is operational. Dewey’s has shared plans to open later this year.

The Board advanced plans to relocate the Dunkin’ location on the northwest corner of Main Street and Skokie Boulevard to the southeast corner of the intersection, adaptively reusing the vacant 7-Eleven building. The new location will include a drive-thru.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month – did you know that ticks can make you sick?
Here are ways to enjoy the outdoors safely:

- Apply an EPA-registered insect repellent containing 20 percent DEET, picaridin, IR3535, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus before spending time in or near wooded areas, tall grass or brush
- Wear light-colored clothing to make ticks easier to find
- Walk in the center of trails

Perform tick checks on yourself, children, and pets
- If you find a tick, remove it as soon as possible
- Call your healthcare provider if you develop any symptoms such as rash, fever, fatigue or joint pain

Save the Date for the Skokie Farmers’ Market!
|
The 51st season of the Skokie Farmers’ Market kicks off on Sunday, May 31, 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., outside of Village Hall!
What to expect: This year’s Market will feature over 80 vendors selling produce, baked goods, artisan cheese, meats, honey, and ready-to-eat food — all grown or made by the people selling it. Live music starts at 8 a.m. Free kids' activities every week.
Next door to the Market: Skokie Public Library has announced it will open at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays this summer, starting May 30. Find a cookbook to enjoy the fresh ingredients you find at the Market!

The Village’s Technology Advancement and Transformation Commission (STAT) is hosting a Cybersecurity event on Thursday, May 28, 7 p.m. at Skokie Police Station. Register in advance.
