Community of Support
Thank you to all our alumni and friends who donated to the Bar Prep Meal Fund and helped us provide meals to the Class of 2024 as they studied for the July bar exam at St. John’s Law. Sustenance comes in many forms, and your generosity let our most recent graduates know that there’s a strong and proud Law School community behind them, rooting for their success on the bar exam and beyond.

Story Time: Summer Public Interest Fellowship Program
Jonathan Giardina ‘26 had to shake off some nerves before presenting a motion to dismiss in court, where he was assisting on a case as an intern at Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV). It was a formative experience for the 2L, who worked at LSHV this summer through the Law School’s Summer Public Interest Fellowship Program thanks to the generosity of alumna Genie Cesar-Fabian ‘04. Read more about our Summer Public Interest Fellowship Program and the generous fundraisers and donors that support it.

Gathering to Learn & Celebrate
The St. John's Law Alumni Association Alumni of Color Chapter braved some heavy rain for an exciting evening in NYC. At McDermott Will & Emery, Chapter members built their knowledge and skills through an informative CLE Program. Then, they made their way to midtown’s Pershing Square for some food, fun, and networking at the Chapter's annual Summer Soiree. Thanks to all who attended and helped to make this event a fun summer tradition!

Giving Back
Life lessons come in many forms. For Billy Michaca '23, in word and action, they came from his mother, a hardworking immigrant from the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. She taught him that no obstacle is insurmountable, and that every challenge is an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. To honor his mother, the profound influence she’s had on his life, and his own path to success, Billy recently established the Against All Odds – Michaca-Ali Award at his high school alma mater. Read more about Billy and the Against All Odds – Michaca-Ali Award.

Out in the Field
Professor Elaine Chiu and St. John's Law alumni and students were out in the community, supporting the family and friends of Christina Yuna Lee as Assamad Nash received a 30-year sentence for Lee's murder. Collaborating with the Asian American Bar Association of New York and other organizations, Professor Chiu regularly shares her expertise in, and advocates for, reforming hate crime laws at the local, state, and federal levels. After the Nash sentencing, she spoke to reporters.
St. John’s Legal Writing Professors Ashley B. Armstrong, Robin Boyle, Louis Jim, Colleen Parker, and Rachel H. Smith presented at the Legal Writing Institute’s (LWI) Biennial Conference. LWI is the nation’s largest organization of legal writing professionals, and over 350 members attended the conference. You can read more about the faculty’s LWI Conference activities at our Faculty Focus blog.
