Immersive experiences lead to international recognition 

The work of Liina Heikkinen, an art major from Madison, and two UW-Whitewater alums was on display last fall at the 32nd Korea Jewelry Design Association Member Exhibition in Seoul, South Korea. Heikkinen, who is mentored by Teresa Faris, professor of art and design, has been positively impacted by the experiences she’s gained through the metals and jewelry program.

Monday-Tuesday: Hired Before Graduation continues 

May 2026 graduates who’ve landed a job or promotion, been admitted to graduate school, or who are starting their own business — you are invited to be recognized in Hired Before Graduation on social media and at commencement. Photo shoots are this Monday and Tuesday in the UC Ballroom (room 275B). Students who can’t make it to one of our photo sessions are invited to participate remotely.

Friday: Latinos Unidos 30th anniversary celebration

UW-Whitewater’s Latinos Unidos will celebrate 30 years of comunidad at the university this Friday, May 8, at 6 p.m. in the University Center Hamilton Room. Join us for a night of celebration, laughter, and old memories. Light refreshments and food provided. Traditional wear or formal wear is encouraged. Cinco de Mayo events will be happening earlier in the week. Free for students with HawkCard.

Warhawk baseball secures third straight conference title 

The UW-Whitewater baseball team clinched the program’s 24th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and will host the conference tournament starting this Thursday, May 7.

DECA named State Chapter of the Year, top 10 chapter in nation 

UW-Whitewater’s DECA chapter earned the 2026 Wisconsin Collegiate DECA Diamond Chapter of the Year award for the fourth straight year and was recognized as one of the top 10 chapters in the country at the International Career Development Conference on April 18-21 in Louisville, Kentucky. Duo honored at Warhawk Sales Competition

Taylor Wojcinski, right, a marketing major from Franklin, and Bailey Quinn, a marketing major from St. Charles, Illinois, finished first and second, respectively, at the 2026 Warhawk Sales Competition, a virtual event that serves as a preliminary to the National Collegiate Sales Competition.

Kudos to John McGuigan, director of the Center for Global Education and professor of literature, writing, and film, who won the Best Short Screenplay award at the 21st Omaha Film Festival on March 10-15 for his script "Mistakes." It was one of six scripts given a staged reading as part of the Writer's Theatre program. His television pilot "Time of Your Life" was runner-up in its category. McGuigan is pictured, at right, with festival director Marc Longbrake.

UWW-TV earned a shoutout from WKOW 27 in Madison for footage provided to the news station of the Warhawk men’s basketball team’s victory in the conference tournament semifinals in February. WKOW 27 »

UW-Whitewater students are invited to Safe Study at Starbucks (1280 W. Main St., Whitewater) to kick off the final exam week next Monday, May 11, from 6-8 p.m. Faculty members will be in attendance to offer free tutoring and encouraging conversations. The first five students to attend will receive a $5 Starbucks gift card.
