UTA’s SACSCOC Fifth-Year Interim Review Compliance Certification Report has been accepted with no further action, a significant accomplishment with our accreditor. We are very thankful for the efforts of our Institutional Effectiveness and Reporting team on the Compliance Certification report. The team has already begun to focus on the full ten-year accreditation report due to SACSCOC in 2026.

UTA is excited to announce the appointment of Jacqueline Fay as the Faculty Ombudsperson. With a commitment to promoting fairness, open communication, and conflict resolution, Dr. Fay will play a vital role in ensuring faculty are heard and supported. Dr. Fay will listen, provide guidance, and facilitate constructive solutions as an independent and neutral party. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Fay to this new role, which she will assume on September 1, 2023. Her expertise and dedication will contribute to a more harmonious and inclusive environment. The provost's office is pleased to offer an opportunity for faculty to participate in a limited release of a new online exam proctoring software, Honorlock. Proctoring software monitors each student’s exam session and alerts a live proctor if problems are detected. Ideal faculty participants teach non-AO online courses or on-campus courses with online exams, have experience using Respondus, are willing to learn a new software application (training materials available), and participate in focus groups and provide feedback. Five thousand student licenses have been purchased for the 2023-2024 academic year and are per unique student regardless of the number of exams. No proctoring costs will be passed on to our students. The Center for Distance Education will manage the Canvas integration for participating courses, and interested faculty should contact Melissa Roach (mroach@uta.edu).

Grad Student Compensation & Benefits |
The titles of graduate teaching and research assistant positions have been revised, and minimum hourly pay rates have been assigned. The minimum pay for these positions will be $12.00 per hour or the equivalent monthly salary for positions with a stipend. This increase will benefit over 100 of our lowest-paid graduate teaching and research assistants. In addition, UTA will begin paying for individual coverage in the Student Health Insurance Plan (UT-SHIP) for those students employed as graduate teaching or research assistants enrolled in Ph.D. or terminal master’s programs. These are the same students who receive support from UTA for their tuition and mandatory fees under the policy that began in the spring of 2023. This plan takes effect in fall 2023, and I am excited to increase our support for graduate teaching and research assistants. Detailed instructions were sent to hiring departments on implementing these new practices for pay and benefits. Questions or concerns should be sent to Jim Grover, Dean of the Graduate School (grover@uta.edu).

August's suggested monthly read is from 12: The Elements of Great Managing by Jim Harter. UTA will soon launch the Gallup engagement survey, and this short chapter (UTA login required) will provide great insight into this critical value.

| I look forward to seeing everyone at the MavsMeet Convocation at College Park Center on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 5:30 pm.
