Dear Colleagues –
Thank you once again for sharing your insights and input as we navigate changes in the College of Education. Your recommendations are already influencing the college's direction, and I look forward to our continued collaboration. I would also like to provide an update on the leadership for the College of Education.
Effective January 1, Ann Cavallo, assistant vice provost and director of the Center for Research on Teaching and Learning Excellence (CRTLE), will assume the role of interim dean of the College of Education. She will shadow Dean Tim Jacobbe for the remainder of his tenure as dean, which concludes Dec. 31.
Dr. Cavallo is a tenured full professor in the College of Education faculty, where she has served for 18 years. During her tenure at UTA, she has held numerous faculty and leadership positions, including Associate Dean in the College of Education, and founding Co-director of UTeach Arlington. Dr. Cavallo’s research investigates high school and college students’ learning approaches and processes, scientific reasoning, self-efficacy, and their acquisition of conceptual understandings of science, particularly through inquiry-based teaching models and she has published widely in these areas. She has been principal investigator or co-investigator of over $15 million in grants and gifts to support education programs and research. In addition, she was awarded the UTA Distinguished Record of Research Award in 2015 and inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Scholars in 2016. She is also a lifetime Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Dr. Cavallo holds a Ph.D. in science education and two master of science degrees from Syracuse University, and an undergraduate degree in education/biology from Niagara University.
Please join me in welcoming Ann to this new leadership role and thanking Dr. Jacobbe for his contributions as dean of the College of Education.
Our next in-person follow-up meeting is November 13 in SEIR conference room 480. You may also join via Teams. I look forward to seeing you then.
Sincerely,
Tamara L. Brown, PhD
Provost & Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
