Top Five Things to Know

From the Office of Provost Peggy Agouris

OFFICE OF THE PROVOST
WEEKLY MESSAGE ARCHIVE

Dear colleagues,

With a full calendar of Homecoming celebrations and Year of the Environment events, it is shaping up to be a week to remember across campus. I encourage you to make time to enjoy the traditions and community that make W&M one of a kind.

Here are the top “5 Things to Know” this week:

  1. Be sure to submit all midterm grades so that students can make informed decisions about their academic success. Encourage your students to take advantage of the resources available to them, such as academic advising, office hours, the Writing and Communication Center, the OUAA, and the Tutor Zone. If you have specific concerns about a student’s academic progress, please contact the OUAA. For concerns about student well-being, do not hesitate to reach out to Care Support Services.

  2. Please remind your students that the Annual Undergraduate Research Opportunities Fair will be held this Wednesday, October 15. The fair is open to all majors and class years. You can find additional information on the event website.

  3. The James Monroe Prize in Civic Leadership is awarded on Charter Day to an undergraduate student who exemplifies the acceptance of just responsibility through leadership for the greater good. Nominations are open through November 2.

  4. Take advantage of a virtual opportunity to learn the basics of digital accessibility this Thursday, October 16. Participants will learn the six key practices that support inclusive design and improve the user experience. Registration is required.

  5. This week’s shout-out goes to the team at Strategic Cultural Partnerships, who were recently awarded a $2.89M, three-year grant from the Department of Education to launch a national teacher professional development program, combining annual in-person conferences with microlearning content development. Congratulations!

Finally, a reminder that with the recent Oak Hall renovation, students are currently in the process of moving into their new residences. Thank you for your continued patience and support throughout this transition.
