Mascot on Main: Jefferson visits |
Chancellor Corey A. King and Willie Warhawk continued UW-Whitewater’s Mascot on Main campaign with visits to businesses in Jefferson, a town 14 miles north of Whitewater, in the spring. Chancellor King and Willie engaged with leaders — including UWW alums — and thanked them for being Warhawk Bold.

Students complete suicide prevention training, CPR/AED certification
|
A total of 377 students took the Recognize, Respond, Refer suicide prevention training course, and more than 100 completed CPR/AED training through the UW-Whitewater Police Department.

Warhawks inducted into Japanese National Honor Society
|
Three UW-Whitewater students have earned induction into the Japanese National Honor Society - College Chapter (JNHS-CC) by the American Association of Teachers of Japanese (AATJ).

| Student-athletes honored for academics
|
More than 400 Warhawk student-athletes earned spots on the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Scholastic Honor Roll for the 2025-26 academic year.

Kudos to Bob Gehrenbeck, professor of music, who coached the Native American Singers, a group from the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Ojibwa) in northern Minnesota that performed with the BBC Symphony and Chorus and five classic vocal soloists for “Requiem for America,” which premiered at the Barbican Centre in London, England, on May 17. The performance will be broadcast on BBC later this summer. A portion of a 2016 performance by UWW’s Chamber Singers — which Gehrenbeck conducts — was included in a pre-event ad. Kudos to Kristen Prock, associate professor of social work, who in July began a three-year appointment to the Council on Social Work Education’s Council on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (CSOGIE). The national council works to advance LGBTQ+ inclusion, equity, and social justice within social work education, research, policy, and practice. CSOGIE »

In May, third-grade students at Kennedy Elementary School in Madison crafted original haikus and created music inspired by “Yellow Birds of Morning,” a poem written by Nicholas Gulig, associate professor of literature, writing, and film. Warhawk named state’s top collegiate journalist
|
Chase Keller, a journalism major from Huntley, Illinois, was one of two recipients in the state of the 2025 Wisconsin Newspaper Association Collegiate Journalist of the Year. Keller, who was recognized in March and earned multiple awards from the organization, served as editor-in-chief of the Royal Purple during the 2025-26 academic year and has taken advantage of classes that have helped prepare him for life after graduation this December.
