Accessibility Corner:
Your Fall Support Lineup |
Looking for more information about any of the below? Visit the ETLC Mission Accessible website.
As you prep your courses for the new semester, now is a great time to make sure your training is up to date and your courses meet federal guidelines. If you haven't yet completed your training, please complete your Mission Accessible training as soon as possible.
We are also excited to bring back our popular BYOD sessions and introduce a new series this fall, Show & Do sessions.
BYOD* Sessions
*(Bring Your Own Device)
Drop in with your laptop and sit down one on one with an instructional designer to troubleshoot the accessibility issues in your own course materials. Whether it is a stubborn PDF, an untagged document, or a captioning question, come with your device and we will work through it together. View BYOD session dates and times to find one that fits your schedule.
Show & Do Sessions
This fall we are offering 10 topic specific "Show & Do" sessions covering common accessibility challenges faculty run into. Sessions will be held three times each week. Each week will feature a different topic. Register for a Show & Do session on the topic most relevant to your courses.
Visit the ETLC Mission Accessible website for full details on training and to register for BYOD sessions and Show & Do topics.

Accessible Syllabus Template |
The UAH Syllabus Template is fully accessible. Please make sure your syllabus for fall is fully accessible either by remediating your syllabus or using the new template.
NOTE: The University Information has been removed from the template. It can be found on the Syllabus page in Canvas where at least one copy of your syllabus should be placed.
For resources on how to make a Word document compliant, check out these ETLC resources.

Good Teaching Always
Starts with a Plan
|
Demonstrate your thoughtful course design, gain some helpful feedback regarding best practices, and receive tangible evidence of your commitment to teaching.
Submit your course for Course Design Review (CDR)!
To get started in Google Drive, just make a copy (File menu > make a copy) of this worksheet and review the criteria and questions you will need to answer to complete the CDR process, which may take more than one sitting to complete.
Have questions? Want some help getting started? Email ELTC at helpdesk@uah.edu to connect with an instructional designer to answer any questions you have.

Do You Use Any SSC Materials in Any of Your Classes? |
The SSC has new accessible versions of all the materials they have provided. Reimport them from Canvas Commons. Check with the SSC if you have concerns about the accessibility of their materials.
|
Withdrawn Students Will No Longer Disappear from Canvas |
Starting this fall, students who are no longer registered for your class will appear in “Inactive Enrollments”. In the gradebook, you will be able to view these students by selecting “Inactive Enrollments” when you click on the three dots by Student Name in the gradebook. If you have questions, contact ETLC at helpdesk@uah.edu.
|
Does your Zoom session end within 40 minutes? |
If your Zoom session ends at 40 minutes, you do not have a licensed account. Faculty (including GTAs) and staff qualify for a licensed account of Zoom. This allows you to run a Zoom session for up to 30 hours for 300 people. Contact ETLC at helpdesk@uah.edu and ask for a licensed account today.

Keep your UAH Applications Updated for Better Accessibility |
UAH faculty and staff are encouraged to keep Microsoft 365 Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Pro updated to the most current versions. Updates often include improved accessibility features, enhanced accessibility checkers, bug fixes, and tools that make it easier to create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and PDFs that meet accessibility expectations.
|
Using the latest versions helps ensure you have access to the most reliable tools for checking headings, reading order, alt text, color contrast, tables, PDF tags, and other important accessibility elements. Taking a few minutes to update your applications now can save time later and help support more accessible digital content for all learners.
