SPECIAL NOTICES
Parish Necrology: All are invited to add the names of loved ones who have entered into eternal life since All Souls’ Day (November 2) 2025 to the Parish Necrology, which will be read aloud during the Solemn Requiem Eucharist on Sunday, November 1, at 5:00 p.m. To do so, write the name(s) of the deceased in the binder at the back of the Church or contact Parish Administrative Coordinator Tonika Hilliard by Tuesday, October 27.

Christ Church Ceilidh: Put on your dancing shoes and join us for an evening of Scottish jigs, reels, sips, and spins. This year’s Ceilidh, a parish-wide event for all ages, will take place on Saturday, October 10, in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium. Doors open at 6:00, dancing will begin at 6:15 p.m., supper will be served at 7:00 p.m., and dancing will continue until 9:00 p.m. No prior experience is necessary as a band and caller will guide participants through the various dances. Kilts are optional. Fun and wonderful memories are not! To register, click here.

Race Weekend: The 42nd annual Army Ten Miler will take place on Sunday, October 11. Parishioners should expect road closures throughout Southwest Washington, DC and Northern Virginia, and plan accordingly.

Scripture Seminar Change of Location: Due to popular demand, the location of the newly inaugurated Christ Church Scripture Seminar has been changed to Keith Hall. Led by the clergy of Christ Church and a team of visiting Biblical scholars, this season’s Scripture Seminar will offer a book-by-book overview of the entire Bible, introducing participants to its history, literary structures, narrative arc, and theological themes. The next session, entitled Creation and De-creation: Story cycles, Symbolism, and Repeating Patterns (Genesis 1-11), will be led by Mother Tiffany Clark and will take place on Sunday, October 11, at 10:15 a.m. For those who would like to come prepared, suggested homework is to listen to or read Genesis chapters 1-3 and to view the Bible Project video on Genesis 1-11. For a schedule of topics, click here.

Fall 2026 New Members Class: Would you like to learn more about the Episcopal/Anglican tradition – its history, theology, and practices? Would you like to become more involved in the life of the parish community or become a registered member of Christ Church, Georgetown? Then join us for five consecutive Sundays of learning and fellowship, beginning Sunday, October 4, at 10:15 a.m., in the C. Boyden Gray Auditorium. For more information or to register, contact Father Timothy Cole.

Feeding Ministry: Christ Church’s Feeding Ministry will next provide a meal to those in need on Sunday, October 11. Parishioners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Volunteers prepare food in the Keith Hall kitchen from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Grate Patrol volunteers then partner with the Salvation Army to deliver and serve the food from 6:15 to 8:00 p.m. To volunteer, click here.

Parish Office Closure: The Parish Office will be closed on Monday, October 12 in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day/Columbus Day. There will be no public recitation of the Daily Office in the Chapel of Saint Jude.

Mission Committee Grant Applications: This year’s Mission Funding Application is now available on the parish website. The deadline for submissions is Friday, October 23. If you support and/or serve a non-profit organization whose mission aligns with the mission of Christ Church, please consider submitting an application. The Mission Committee will review applications made by communicants in good standing and notify selected partners. Funding will be disbursed by year’s end. For more information, contact parishioner Cristina Foran or Father Andrew Stump.

Solemn Requiem Eucharist on the Eve of All Souls’ Day: On Sunday, November 1, the Eve of the Commemoration of All Faithful Departed, at 5:00 p.m., the Choir of Christ Church and soloists, accompanied by a chamber ensemble, will sing Gabriel Fauré’s sublime Requiem Mass in D minor, Op. 48, within the context of the liturgy. The service will include a reading of the parish necrology. A reception will follow.

GENERAL NOTICES
Weekday Services: Public recitation of Morning Prayer (8:00 a.m.) and Evening Prayer (5:00 p.m.) takes place Monday through Saturday in the Chapel of Saint Jude. On Wednesdays, Morning Prayer is followed by a simple celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Additional volunteers are needed to share in the leadership of these brief services. For more information, contact Father Timothy Cole.

Young Professionals Happy Hour: The first Young Professionals Happy Hour of the program year will take place on Thursday, October 8, 6:00 p.m., at the Barrell House: 1341 14th Street, NW. All young professionals of the parish, along with their guests, are welcome! For more information, contact Father Andrew Stump.

Bite-sized Bible Study: Originally intended for parents with small children, this group now welcomes all to participate in an exploration of the books of Kings. Sessions take place on Sundays, at 10:15 a.m., in the Memorial Room on the third floor of Linthicum Hall. Nursery care for infants and toddlers, as well as music formation classes for children ages 3 through 11, is available. For more information, contact parishioners Julia Ainsley, Megan Murton, or Matthew Fredericks.

Centering Prayer: All are invited to participate in a weekly, community-led time of centering prayer and Lectio Divina on Tuesdays, from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m., via Zoom. Drawn from the monastic tradition, these practices offer an intentional way for individuals to make themselves available to God, acknowledging that “we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us.” For more information, contact parishioners Lesley Lilly (713-805-5889) or Molly Peacock. To join the video call, click here.

Thursday Morning Bible Study: This fall, parishioners of all ages are invited to participate in an exploration of Genesis, a book which lays the foundation for the biblical narrative of God and his people. The next gathering will take place on October 15, at 8:00 a.m., in Keith Hall. For more information, contact parishioner Ernest Clark or Father Andrew Stump.

Choral Evensong: The next service of Choral Evensong will take place on Sunday, October 18, at 5:00 p.m., in the Church. The liturgy will include works by David Hogan, Moses G. Hogan, William Bradley Roberts, and Thomas Tallis. Evensong will continue on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of the month through May. A reception follows each service. Christ Church is one of a handful of parishes in the U.S. to offer this beautiful, quintessentially Anglican liturgy with such frequency. Do plan to join us… and bring a friend.

Women’s Bible Study: Join Mother Tiffany Clark and a dynamic group of women as they tackle the Epistle to the Hebrews, a book which reflects back on the development of the pilgrim people of God in the Old Testament, offering a parallel interpretive commentary on what God was doing for them and, through Christ, what he is doing for us. The next gathering will take place on Monday, October 19, at 6:00 p.m., in the Memorial Room. A Zoom option is available. To view a brief introductory video, click here. To register, click here.

Rowan Williams at Georgetown University: On Tuesday, October 20, at 4:00 p.m., the Right Reverend Dr. Rowan D. Williams, who served as the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury, will deliver the 2026 James M. and Margaret H. Costan Lecture in Early Christianity and be awarded an honorary degree in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to our understanding of Christian faith and to interreligious dialogue in the global Church. Dr. Williams’ talk, Vision, Knowledge, Desire: the Intersection of Philosophy and Spirituality in Early Christian Writing, will speak to early Christian reflection on prayer and contemplation’s connection to classical philosophical discussion. The event will take place in historic Gaston Hall at Georgetown University. Admission is free. Parishioners of Christ Church, Georgetown are invited to register here.

St Francis Guild Meeting: The St Francis Guild, Christ Church’s animal welfare and creation care mission group, will host a virtual meeting on Tuesday, October 20, at 6:30 p.m. Longtime group member Janet Presswood will report on this year’s Taking Action for Animals, the leading annual national conference for animal advocacy, organized by the Humane World Alliance (formally Humane Society of the United States). Kristin Dunn, founder and president of the Saint Francis Institute for Animals, will also speak. The Saint Francis Institute for Animals is a new nonprofit whose mission is “to educate and empower U.S. Catholics to protect animals and to end the needless suffering of our fellow creatures.” To receive the meeting link, contact parishioner Sheila Ward.

Women’s Ministry Social Hour: Join the women of Christ Church for an informal, monthly gathering – the perfect way to reconnect with old friends and to make new ones. The next social hour will take place on Thursday, October 22, at 6:00 p.m. It will be hosted by parishioner Solveig Gold. To register, click here.

Men’s Ministry Happy Hour: The next Men’s Happy Hour will take place Thursday, October 22, 6:00 p.m., at 1310 Kitchen and Bar: 1310 Wisconsin NW. All men of the parish are welcome – as are their guests. For more information, contact parishioners Chad Thorley or Al Troup.

Camino Pilgrimage: Come, walk with God and fellow Christ Church pilgrims on an ancient path of prayer. Lined with stone crosses and chapels, and passing through verdant vineyards and medieval villages, the Camino de Santiago leads to a stunning destination and to a deeper life with God. This seven-day, 75-mile pilgrimage begins in Tui, Spain, and includes morning and evening prayer with daily reflections. The pilgrimage, led by Mother Meredith Kefauver Olsen, will take place May 23 to 30, 2027. The deadline for registration is December 20. For more information or to register, click here.

Thrift Shop Update: The Christ Church Thrift Shop, located on the lower level of Linthicum Hall, has resumed operation. The Thrift Shop is open each Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and on the fourth Sunday of each month, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in conjunction with the Parish Feast. Donations of unused or unwanted treasures are needed at this time: clothing, jewelry, antiques, china, glassware, household items, etc. Contributions are being accepted during the Thrift Shop’s normal hours of operation and by appointment at the Parish Office.

Altar Flowers: If you would like to make a contribution to help offset the cost of the flowers that will adorn the altar on a particular Sunday or feast day, contact the Parish Office. The Flower Guild accepts contributions in memory of the departed, in celebration of births, and in thanksgiving for the reception of Christian sacraments. Contributions marking private secular celebrations are welcome, but they will not be acknowledged in service leaflets or the Prayers of the People. In such cases, donors are encouraged to let loved ones know of their contribution with a greeting card. The suggested donation is $150.
