Dear Eagle Nation:
As hard as it is to believe, mid-terms and Spring Break are quickly approaching. Thus, we are nearing the half point of another great semester at Coppin. In light of our collective efforts, I would like to share the progress we have made in our retention and recruitment efforts as a university.
Last fall, I outline a goal for us to retain 90 percent of our total student headcount from fall-to-spring. Historically, our fall-to-spring retention rates fluctuated between 75 to 84 percent. Because of the collective work of many across campus, this spring semester, we achieved our 90 percent fall-to-spring student retention goal, and in addition added more than 100 new students to our community of scholars.
Our students are also showing great focus in their academic pursuits, and challenging themselves by taking more credit hours, bringing them closer to earning their degree in less time. Since my arrival, I have challenged our students to do the math: 5 + 8 = 4
That is: 5 classes + 8 semesters = 4 years to earn their degree. This allows our students to save 50 percent on tuition, as well as reduce the amount of money borrowed in student loans.
As fall registration opens, let’s continue to encourage and support our students to register for the Fall 2023 semester. Any students facing registration challenges, should be directed to the Eagle Achievement Center.

The Eagle Achievement Center (EAC) is leading the way in reimagining our student enrollment and student retention strategies. In addition to providing student support services and resources in one location inside of its new space on the fourth floor of our library, the dedicated staff at the EAC organizes activities, programming, and experiences that help empower students in their academic, personal, and professional development.

The EAC will host Career Week March 26 through March 31, with a number of workshop events for students, including the Career and Graduate School Expo, on March 29. This event is invaluable for students interested in exploring their career and graduate school options.

The EAC will also host another string of Pop-Up Registration events, beginning April 5. EAC staff will be on hand to assist students with registration for Fall 2023 classes, and help them access other support services that can help foster their academic success. Pop-Up event dates, times, and locations coming soon.

I hope that all of our students will take advantage of these opportunities, and connect with the EAC throughout the year. The EAC has a talented team who are wholely committed to the holistic development and success of our students, and who are willing and able to help them navigate the challenges they face during their academic career. I encourage our students, faculty, and staff to connect with and support the work of the EAC. We are stronger when we work together.
Any questions about Career Week or Pop-Up Registration events should be sent to eac@coppin.edu.
