DECEMBER 2025

BRIDGE TRAFFIC AND TRANSIT RIDERSHIP UPDATE

Travel in the Golden Gate Corridor by Bridge, Bus, and Ferry remains well below pre-pandemic levels. Thankfully, overall travel in the Golden Gate Corridor continues to trend upward after a relatively flat October.
In November 2025, southbound Bridge traffic was 3% above November 2024 traffic, Bus ridership was 11% above November 2024, and Ferry ridership was 4% above November 2024 ridership. The District continues to add back Bus and Ferry service incrementally as we see a return of our customers travelling in the Golden Gate Corridor.
November 2025 traffic and transit ridership statistics are below:

NEXT GENERATION CLIPPER LAUNCHES

Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry customers may now pay for adult transit fares using a contactless credit or debit card - including mobile cards stored on their phones - in addition to existing payment methods. These new ways to pay were launched on December 10, 2025 as part of the regionwide transition to the next generation of Clipper. Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry, along with all other Bay Area transit agencies, will transition other the new system over the next 8-12 weeks.
Other features that will roll out over the course of the Clipper transition include discounted interagency transfers, the ability to instantly add and use value on a Clipper card, manage multiple Clipper accounts, and apply for youth and senior cards online.
Bay Area transit agencies and MTC announced the new Clipper features with a regional marketing campaign and press conference with transit GMs and elected officials at the Embarcadero BART station on December 10.

GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE PARKING LOTS CLOSED DURING HOLIDAYS

From Christmas Day (12/25) through New Year's Day (1/1), visitors to the Golden Gate Bridge should consider riding a bike, taking a bus, or using a rideshare when traveling to the Bridge. Parking lots are closed from 11am to approximately 5pm to reduce traffic congestion. During these closures, personal vehicles will not be permitted to park at the Welcome Center
southeast end parking lot or at Caltrans Vista Point northeast end parking lot.

GOLDEN GATE HOLIDAY SERVICE SCHEDULES

Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry are running modified service this holiday season, with limited service on most holidays. Additionally, current Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry schedules have been extended through mid-April 2026 until the MASCOTS services changes go into effect. Customers should refer to their existing Golden Gate Transit Guide and Ferry pocket schedule until April 2026. Updated Transit Guides and Ferry schedules will be available in late March.
