Dear Colleagues,
This is the last issue before we slow down the rate of Lakers Ready. In the last two issues I shared two books in my reading queue. I was thrilled to see the response to these. 145 of you requested a copy of Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout, 65 have requested a copy of I've Been Thinking. I hope you all enjoy these books and find something of value in them. In return, I would love to receive recommendations and sharing from you of what you will be reading or strongly recommending. Please use this email to tell us.
Today I share a few quotes from Annie Dillard’s The Life of a Writer because we are all writers in one form or another (the formatting of the quotes is mine).

“The writer … is careful of what he reads, for that is what he will write.
He is careful of what he learns, because that is what he will know.”
And
“Why are we reading, if not in hope of beauty laid bare,
life heightened and its deepest mystery probed?”

Happy reading and writing everyone.

Grant received from Community Foundation for Muskegon and Mason Counties |
Congratulations to Amanda Buday of Sociology for receiving a $3,888 grant from the Community Foundation for Muskegon and Mason Counties, for "Water Science in Agriscience." Dr. Buday and students from the Ravenna High School FFA Stream Team will generate community-owned stream monitoring data to document the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of Crockery Creek, a socially and ecologically important but understudied Muskegon County trout stream.
