Consulate General of Japan Christmas Tree Exhibits:
The Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta is celebrating the holidays by participating in three international
Christmas Tree Exhibits. The trees are on display at Fernbank Museum's Winter Wonderland, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport's Winter Wonderland (located in Concourse F) and the Georgia Governor's Mansion's "Christmas at the Mansion: Global Grassroots." The Japanese culturally themed trees incorporate origami, 凧 ("tako"; Japanese traditional kites), 水引 ("mizuhiki"; decorative wire crafts) and more.
Atlanta Hawks Japanese Community Night:
The Atlanta Hawks will host Japanese Community Night on Friday, February 2nd at 7:30PM (EST). Come enjoy a Japanese Community Ticket Package at State Farm Arena as *Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks take on *Yuta Watanabe and the Phoenix Suns! Each ticket includes a food and beverage credit. Japan America Society of NC - Annual Gala and Fundraiser

All are welcome to join the Annual Gala Dinner and Fundraiser at the Carolina Country Club. Mr. Mio Maeda, Consul General of Japan in Atlanta, will be attendance as well as Individual and Corporate JASNC Members from across the state.
JASNC will award long time NC resident and 40 year business owner, Ms. Sachiko McShea (former owner of Toyo Shokuhin), with the JASNC Community Service Award. There will also be a Silent Auction including a weekend at The Umstead Hotel and Spa and tickets to local university/college games. Seating is limited so register early.

The Japanese Culture Center is excited to hold a 書道 – Shodo / Japanese Calligraphy program with Chicago’s own Shodo master, Hekiun Oda!
In the Shodo program you learn the art of Japanese calligraphy from Hekiun Oda-sensei, a calligraphy master from the Japanese Calligraphy Association in Japan, aka “Genshin-kai”. Thanks to Oda-sensei’s rank as “Shihan” in the association, students in this program will be able to send their work to the headquarters in Japan and potentially be an awarded a rank. A very rare opportunity! The classes are focused on learning various writing techniques while working on assignments that are tailored to each student’s level and ability. Whether beginner or advanced, all levels and ages are welcomed!

Lunch & Learn - IRS Tax Enforcement & What Japanese Companies Need to Know

Recent changes to U.S. transfer pricing enforcement place companies at greater risk of transfer pricing adjustments and penalties. Our presentation will cover changes to the IRS audit approach, why the IRS litigation results are improving, and how IRS changes to its penalty approach make companies less protected from penalties. We will explain how these trends affect Japanese companies in the U.S., and how they should re-evaluate transfer pricing policies and documentation to reduce risk.
Speakers, Mr. Steven Wrappe and Mr. Masatake Kuramoto, have experience with the IRS and Big 4 firms, and they will explain in English and Japanese. After the seminar, we will have an opportunity to answer any questions.

おうちごはん! (Ouchigohan) Okonomiyaki Homecooking Class

Join us for the December edition of the family-friendly online Japanese cooking class series おうちごはん!Ouchigohan! – Japanese Home Cooking and cook along with us from your own kitchen! On the menu this month is okonomiyaki, a crispy and fluffy savory pancake made from crunchy cabbage mixed with batter. “Okonomi” means “as you like it” and “yaki” means “grilled,” so you can pick and choose the fillings: keep it vegetarian with mushrooms or add shrimp, thinly sliced pork or bacon—however you like it! Learn how to make traditional okonomiyaki sauce to put on top, along with a drizzle of mayonnaise. Kids will love designing and decorating their very own special okonomiyaki! Then, a simple wakame soup rounds out the meal. Participants can cook their own dishes with step-by-step guidance from TABLE FOR TWO’s Debra Samuels. This month’s dishes can be prepared vegetarian and/or gluten-free.

As a part of the Society’s winter tradition, we will be celebrating the holidays at the 43rd Bonenkai Holiday Dinner Gala on December 12, 2023, at the Piedmont Driving Club. Join us as this year's dinner promises to be an evening you will not want to miss with the Consul General of Japan in Atlanta presenting the Foreign Minister of Japan’s 2023 Commendation Award to JASG Chair Emeritus, Mr. Charles Ganz. The dinner will also feature a networking cocktail reception, silent auction, door prizes, and performances by Junko Fujiyama and the Suzuki School of Violin.
You will also be glad to know that the evening will also feature our always-popular Silent Auction. If you have items that you would like to donate as a tax-deductable contribution to the Silent Auction, please contact the JASG office at 404-842-1400. Additionally, if you are a service organization or other institution that does not have an item to donate, please consider donating $100 or more for the JASG to purchase an appropriate item on your behalf. All proceeds from the auction will fund The JASG’s many educational, business, and cultural projects we offer throughout the year.
