Did You Know…?


Did you know that in 1970, One Day at a Time in Al‑Anon (ODAT) [B‑6] sold for $3.50? It was one of our best‑selling books at that time. Factoring in the rate of inflation, in today’s dollars, that price would equate to $27.76.
Currently, ODAT sells for $13.00. Our members’ contributions allow us to keep costs low so we can serve the newcomer still struggling from the family disease of alcoholism.

From the Archives: When Was the First Adult Children Meeting Registered?


According to page 175 of Many Voices, One Journey (B‑31), the first Al‑Anon Adult Children’s group registered in 1974. But it was in the early 1980s that the number of these groups began to rapidly increase.
Beginning with 14 groups in early 1982, registered Adult Children groups numbered 81 by the end of the first quarter of 1983. By year’s end, the total was 194. Internationally, Al‑Anon Adult Children groups were on the rise in Argentina, Mexico, and Spain between 1985 and 1996.

Membership Survey Statistic: Generations Affected


Within the results of the 2021 Al‑Anon Membership Survey, distributed to over 16,000 members, a notable trend emerged: Roughly 67 percent of members reported being impacted by alcoholism spanning two or more generations.
This statistic underscores the far‑reaching impact of alcoholism across family lines and the crucial role Al‑Anon plays in offering support to those affected.
