December 2025
As we conclude the fall semester, I am pleased to share how the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business is shaping the future of business education. Our commitment to transforming aspiration into achievement, access into opportunity, and potential into meaningful impact for our region is what makes us so special.
This semester marked important progress. We reached a significant milestone with the official launch of the Harold Dean Valceschini and Joan Robel Valceschini Real Estate Certificate, and eight junior and senior Spartans gained invaluable international experience through the Thompson Global Internship Program (TGIP) in Hong Kong. Our community fostered leadership and ingenuity by hosting the 22nd Silicon Valley Innovation Challenge (SVIC), the Eminent Speaker Series, the Hospitality Summit, and the inaugural OSCM Summit, while alumni events like the Ignite & Inspire Series and the Student-Athlete Mixer successfully connected current students with successful Spartans, all reflecting the very best of our collaborative and excellence-driven community.
To our partners, alumni, and friends, thank you for your steadfast support. Together, we are expanding pathways for students, strengthening our community, and building the future of inclusive and impactful business education in Silicon Valley.

With gratitude,
Rangapriya (Priya) Kannan, Ph.D.

Spartans Go Global: Business students gain hands-on experience in Hong Kong through the Thompson Global Internship Program
The Lucas College and Graduate School of Business prioritizes giving students hands-on, career-defining learning experiences. While many hands-on learning opportunities at San José State University are on campus, others require travel, sometimes even abroad. The Thompson Global Internship Program (TGIP) is one of the College's most distinctive and competitive offerings, providing an opportunity exclusively for junior and senior business students at SJSU.
This past summer, eight Spartans packed their bags for an experience of a lifetime. From June through July 2025, the interns immersed themselves in Hong Kong while tackling complex assignments for Crown Worldwide Group, a multinational company that provides a range of logistics and related services.
Starting January 2, 2026, eligible Spartan students who want to elevate their skills and career-readiness can apply for the Thompson Global Internship Program for the summer of 2026.

SJSU is the Host with the Most at the 2025 Hospitality Summit
For decades, the gesture of a mint on the pillow has been synonymous with luxury, and more importantly, care, thoughtfulness, and a warm welcome. In that same spirit, San José State University’s Hospitality Summit, with its breadth of offerings for student attendees, is itself the “mint on the pillow” for Spartans pursuing careers in hospitality, tourism and event management.

‘From Awkward to Awesome’: SJSU Alumna and General Manager at Microsoft Shares Networking Know-how in Latest Edition of Ignite & Inspire Series
In a conference room reimagined with draped tables adorned with autumn colors, a captivated audience listened to a fireside chat between alumna Janice Le, general manager at Microsoft Security, and Lucas College of Business Dean, Rangapriya “Priya” Kannan. The November 19th event, LILAC’s (LCoB Interorganizational Leadership Advancement Committee) most recent installation of its Ignite & Inspire series, centered on a clever and relatable theme: “From Awkward to Awesome.” The conversation dove into the often-intimidating and, well, awkward, topic of networking. Le lent her fascinating takes on how to adapt and thrive in the realm of career networking, including her easy to remember stance of "Why blend in when you can stand out?”
