As part of the ITS Strategic Plan, ITS will retire the H: and I: drives and transition to Microsoft OneDrive for individual file storage and Microsoft Teams for departmental file sharing. This change will improve access, collaboration, and security across campus.
As part of this process, everyone will be responsible for migrating their own files and folders to OneDrive. Departments will likewise review their shared content and complete the migration of departmental files to Teams.
ITS will share guidance, timelines, and support resources to help make the transition as smooth as possible. You’re welcome to begin moving your individual and departmental files whenever it works best for you—there’s no need to wait for additional communication from ITS.
Below is a list of filetypes that are restricted from being transferred to Teams or OneDrive:

- Executable and binary files:
- .exe, .com, .scr, .pif, .application, .gadget, .msi, .msp, .cpl, .msc, .jar
- Script and macro files:

.bat, .cmd, .vbs, .vbe, .js, .jse, .ws, .wsf, .wsh, .ps1, .psm1, .hta, .reg
- Disk image and virtual machine files:
- .iso, .img, .vhd, .vhdx, .vmdk, .ova
- Less common but high risk files:

.chm (Compiled HTML Help), .lnk (shortcut, can execute code), .url, .inf, .dll, .ocx, .sys
- Certain zip/compressed files:
- .zip, .rar, .7z, .gz, .tar, .iso, .img (if password-protected or deeply nested)
- Excessive numbers of multimedia files (including but not limited to these types)
- .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .mov, .mpg, .avi, .mp3, .wav, .heif, .heifs, .heic, .heics; .avci, .avcs, .HIF

Also, please make sure file and folder names aren’t too long. OneDrive allows a maximum file path length of 400 characters total, including the file name and OneDrive root folder (e.g., C:\users\username\OneDrive - Company). Individual file or folder names can be up to 255 characters.
