Greetings from the University Staff Advisory Council!

July Meeting Highlights

  • USAC was joined by Dawn Turton, Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chancellor, to discuss the new Vice Chancellor for People, Culture, and Belonging role that was announced in a MyVU article last month.  The University has hired Korn Ferry, an executive search firm, to conduct the search.

  • Krystal Clark, Director of Employee Learning and Engagement, led members in reflection exercises to orient their personal goals in relation to USAC for the year ahead.

  • Co-chairs from USAC's various committees highlighted past accomplishments and discussed their work for the year ahead.  All USAC members will be selecting the committee on which they will serve in 2023-2024 in the coming days.  Much of the work of USAC happens through committees and that work often results in positive change for, and deeper connections with, the entire Vanderbilt community.

Employee Hardship Fund is now
the Employee Critical Support Fund

Vanderbilt's Faculty and Staff Hardship Fund has provided assistance to qualifying faculty and staff who are experiencing a temporary hardship due to a significant life event since 1994. Previously housed within VUMC, the fund has transitioned to Vanderbilt University ownership and now renamed the Employee Critical Support Fund - providing employees peace of mind during times of uncertainty and to demonstrate the power and values of the Vanderbilt community.
Employees are encouraged to contribute to the fund through
the Kroger Community Rewards Program.

HR Employee Learning and Engagement invites employees to participate in Leading at VU: Compliance and Supervisory Fundamentals, a new self-paced series on important policies at Vanderbilt University.
Leading at VU is available to any employee and will be of interest to those who:
  • Currently serve in a supervisory, managerial or leadership role (a people leader)
  • Aspire to serve as a people leader in the future
  • Are interested in further developing their knowledge of VU policies
The series is open access; employees can self-enroll and participate at their own pace.

Emergency Preparedness Resources
As noted in this MyVU article, the university has recently begun a comprehensive review of Vanderbilt’s emergency preparedness, particularly in response to an active assailant scenerio. As a result of these efforts, new resources are now available on the Emergency Management website – please familiarize yourself with the flyer and training deck, linked below, and share these important resources with your colleagues and fellow community members.
