Welcome to The Buzz Around Student Affairs! |
Can you believe it's already November?! We know it's cliché, but the year has truly flown by!
With Thanksgiving 🦃 just around the corner, and finals, Commencement and winter break just after that, it'll be a new year before we know it! But some of the best times of the year are still ahead, so breathe and hang in there!
If you start feeling the burn of the late semester blues, just remember, everything we do is for our students. It's also important to take a moment for you. You can't be your best self for our students if you're not taking care of your own needs. ⭐
Keep those Stingers Up!

A Message from Student Affairs Leadership |
The unit of Student Academic Success and Educational Equity Programs (SASEEP) is devoted to developing the whole student through a rich core of services aimed at promoting student success and life readiness. SASEEP places a strategic emphasis on experiential learning and career readiness through an arsenal of programming shaped by campus and community partnerships.
To meet the ever-evolving needs of students, SASEEP provides success workshops, individualized advising, student advocacy, and campus referrals and generalized support. In addition, to advance access initiatives and the transition to college, our unit provides access to a college degree for high-need students and works to enrich the lives of students through advising, coaching, and peer-based mechanisms for all students on campus.
|
As a dynamic unit serving students, we are equipped to leverage experiential learning opportunities to increase engagement, foster student belonging and life skills, and create an environment of care that leads students through the pathway to the degree and along life’s trajectory of success.
Join SASEEP in its new and existing innovative programs including: the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Hornet Connect, its global Student Success Initiative, Male Empowerment Collaborative, DEGREES Project, specialized innovations, U-Mentor, and equity partnerships and community-engaged projects designed to uplift communities and capitalize on the dream of educational, experiential, and life success.
Sincerely,
|

How AI could radically change schools by 2050
|
“The need to have everybody in the class doing the same thing, being assessed in the same way, will seem totally old-fashioned.”
– Howard Gardner, psychologist and social scientist
|
By 2050, education will look radically different than it does now, according to psychologist and social scientist Howard Gardner — the originator of the theory of multiple intelligences — and Anthea Roberts, a visiting professor at Harvard Law School and founder and CEO of the AI tool Dragonfly Thinking.
Gardner ... called AI as fundamental a change to education as the world had seen in 1,000 years — and even said it may render obsolete many of the forms of mind he is famous for describing.

Windows 10 Support Has Ended |
As you may have seen in recent updates from the IRT Office and in last month's The Buzz, Microsoft officially ended support for Windows 10 on Oct. 14. To help protect the University’s network and data, any devices still running Windows 10 have been temporarily quarantined.
What This Means for You
If one of your devices has been quarantined, don’t worry, we’re here to help! Just reach out to our team, and we’ll work with you to determine the best next steps.
Why This Matters
Without ongoing updates from Microsoft, Windows 10 devices are more vulnerable to security risks. Quarantining these systems helps keep our entire campus network safe.
Thank you for helping us maintain a secure and reliable technology environment!
If you have any questions, remember that you can always reach out to us by email, by phone at 916-278-2745 or via Teams (search for stdaf-01 or Student Affairs IT).

The CSU is currently implementing the new Procure-to-Pay (P2P) system, and Sac State is on schedule to implement P2P in January.
It is important that managers and staff are fully aware of the new system. The CSU has hosted demonstrations since July. Recordings of these demos are available online. Procurement requests that folks please complete a survey to help them plan future P2P training sessions.
Be prepared! Managers will have a much bigger role in approving purchases in P2P!
