Dear Tulane Community,
We want to share that beginning soon, a temporary increased presence of additional federal agents is expected in New Orleans.
Day-to-day operations at the university will continue and there are no anticipated changes to our campus safety protocols or services. The Tulane University Police Department (TUPD) remains the primary authority responsible for the safety and security of our campuses.
Tulane cooperates with all lawful inquiries from federal, state, and local government agencies and law enforcement. Agents are required to have permission from an authorized campus official or a judicial warrant or subpoena to access nonpublic parts of the university, such as classrooms, housing and areas requiring university-issued identification. If an individual from a governmental regulatory agency (including ICE, DEQ, OSHA, etc.) or law enforcement (such as local or state police) contacts you, please immediately contact the Office of the General Counsel at (504) 865-5783 or the Tulane University Police Department at (504) 865-5381. Additional resources regarding unannounced visits by government agents or law enforcement can be found here.
It is important to note that federal officials may be on campus for reasons unrelated to enforcement actions. Universities with international programs are required to report certain information about international students on an F-1 or J-1 visa to the federal government. This reporting is routine, and the university is required to comply with on-site visits to review records when requested.
Please know that Tulane continues to prioritize the well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. If you ever have concerns about your personal environment or need assistance, we encourage you to contact TUPD at (504) 865-5381, use the Concerns Report, or reach out to other university support services available to you. Students seeking support services may also call the Student Affairs professional on-call 24/7 at 504-920-9900.
We remain committed to ensuring Tulane is a welcoming and supportive place for everyone. Thank you for staying informed and for continuing to look out for one another and for our greater New Orleans community.
