by Edmund De Waal

The Hare with Amber Eyes is a 2010 memoir by British ceramicist Edmund De Waal, tracing his family's history through a collection of 264 Japanese netsuke (miniature carvings) that survived the Holocaust. The book chronicles the rise and fall of the wealthy Ephrussi banking dynasty, from 19th-century Paris and Vienna to the devastation of WWII.
