Hello Friends of YoungLives!
The past month has brought some exciting developments including our first club and a weekend trip to Carolina Point. It has also brought some challenges and frustrations, including having a hard time getting girls to show up at planned events.
One of our volunteer mentors shared the following with our team recently, and I've been constantly sitting and wrestling with it over the past few weeks: "That we would continue on knowing that we are called to walk in the truth, and not to rush ahead of our divine timing. Staying diligent and steadfast - meditating on our purpose - to share the love of Christ with teen moms. May we be patient, not to rush ahead but to continue on even when we feel discouraged with no one responding or people backing out." She based this encouragement off of a reading in 2 John where John is talking about WALKING in obedience and WALKING in love. He points out in verse 9 that "Anyone who RUNS AHEAD and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son."
One thing the Lord is showing me in starting this ministry is that it's all in HIS timing - not mine. I'm ready to run ahead full speed with all the events and big ideas and ride the momentum of support I have felt since day one. It seems like God is wanting a little more walk, and a little less run. My hope and prayer is in the next month we as leaders can find time to be patient in the walking, and not overlook the joy and goodness that comes with being slow and intentional.
Thank you to everyone who has planned events, donated meals, shown up for child care, offered community connections, and prayed for us. I am so grateful and humbled to get to watch the Lord grow this ministry HIS way and in HIS time, and that we get to walk alongside Him in the process.
In Him,
Whitney Busse

FIRST CLUB - we had a very sweet "Galentines" Day club on Feb 12th at New Horizon Church. The space is absolutely perfect for us, and we had a delicious meal donated, eager childcare volunteers, and several interpreters ready to go. A new friend came all the way from Cary to hang out with us, and we were very excited to make connections over cookie decorating and Valentines Bingo playing.
CONNECTIONS AT ORANGE AND SOUTHERN - last week one of the mentors connected with an office staff person at Orange High School and arranged for us to drop off doughnuts and information about YoungLives. She is very enthusiastic about helping us connect with girls. The Southern High School social worker also said yes to us coming to do a Lunch and Learn next week with a few students. We are turning more attention towards trying to make connections at the schools so we can meet these girls on their turf first to build trust.

PARTNERSHIP EVENTS WITH PREGNANCY SUPPORT SERVICES AND ORANGE COUNTY ADOLESCENT PARENTING PROGRAM - Our dear friends at PSS have been wonderful at helping us make connections, and they have a growing list of clients who would be eligible for YoungLives. They've agreed to partner with us in hosting an event at Grace Church that will provide "life skills" education for young moms along with free childcare and some free resources. The social worker of the Orange County APP has also expressed interest in partnering with us to host a Mother's Day Event for young parents in Orange County. More details to come about both of these partnership events.

WEEKEND CAMP @ CAROLINA POINT - several weekends ago all North and South Carolina YoungLives chapters met at Carolina Point for a winter weekend together. Whitney got to experience YoungLife camp in general for the first time, and saw in action all that occurs for YoungLives. James Witham went from our area to serve in childcare, and had a really great experience on that side of things as well. We are praying we will have some friends to take back for Summer Camp at the end of July! Check out the video below for more information on volunteering to go with us and do childcare or be an adult guest!

PRAYERS for...
Open doors at these target high schools where we know there are teen moms:
- Durham County: Hillside, Northern, Riverside, Southern, and Jordan
- Orange County: Cedar Ridge, Orange High, and Partnership Academy
Spanish speaking volunteer mentors and childcare volunteers to join our team
- Wisdom and discernment in how to meet, connect, and engage these young moms. From what we've seen so far many appear to be isolated and not highly motivated to venture outside their comfort zone. We are asking the Lord to soften their hearts and be willing to give YoungLives a try, but even more so that He would show us how to meet them where they are and in a way that feels natural and not scary.
- Continued interest in partnership events with community organizations. Pray for upcoming events with PSS and Orange County APP. Pray for events to come to fruition with H.E.A.R.T.S, Orange County Health Dept, Durham County Health Dept, Lincoln Center Community Health, and Duke Adolescent Medicine providers
