Dear UWM Community,
Vice Chancellor Joan Nesbitt and I are thrilled to announce that today the Zilber Family Foundation presented UWM’s Joseph J. Zilber College of Public Health with a record $20 million gift to support faculty excellence and student achievement.
This is the largest donation in UWM’s history, and it ensures that the university will continue to contribute to the advancement of health equity for all people in Milwaukee and across Wisconsin. We are tremendously grateful to the Zilber Family Foundation for their commitment to strengthen individuals, families and neighborhoods.
The gift will impact the lives of thousands in our community by supporting two endowments: the Zilber Faculty Excellence Fund and the Vera Zilber Student Program Fund. It’s an investment in the people who make the Zilber College of Public Health a transformative force in Milwaukee.
Founded in 2009, the Zilber College of Public Health is Wisconsin’s only accredited school of public health and one of only 56 such dedicated schools in the country. A $10 million donation from Joseph J. Zilber in 2007 laid the important foundation for and played a significant role in advancing public health in Milwaukee. With this and several other gifts, the Zilber Family Foundation has been a key part of the college’s impact — through research, student success and community health partnerships.
This extraordinary act of philanthropy is more than a financial contribution. It invests in supporting and retaining faculty, providing real-world experiences and training for students, and creating healthier communities for residents across Wisconsin.
