Proper corn silage harvest hinges on assessing whole plant moisture. Farmers, crop consultants and other ag professionals should make corn plant moisture monitoring a priority to identify the optimum time to harvest silage to maximize forage yield & quality.

The next local dry down date is Tuesday, September 3rd at Country Visions Co-op in Fond du Lac. Please look for results on Wednesday, September 4th.

Cut 4-5 stalks at chopper height the morning of the dry down event
- Select stalks representative of the inside of the field – avoid field borders & headlands
- All samples should be at least dent stage
- Be prepared to share the following information:
- Planting Date, Relative Maturity, Seed Brand, Hybrid, BMR, Fungicide Application, Previous Crop & Cover Crop

Sample results will be e-mailed after each event & can be found at the Regional Ag website. |
