Staff Summer Reading Program |
|
|
| Your Swarthmore College Libraries have much more than just academic resources. We have sci fi and fantasy, romance, sports books, graphic novels, audiobooks, and so much more.
This is why we’re launching a Staff Summer Reading Program, to encourage reading books in all formats and genres, and come together as a community to find joy in reading.
Sign up to participate today!

|
Starting on Tuesday, May 27, we’ll help participants keep track of how much they’re reading, either in pages, if you read print books or in hours, if you listen to audiobooks. You can read any book you want, including books from the Swarthmore College Libraries, public libraries, and bookstores. The program will conclude in late August at a party for all participants big prizes for the people who read the most. Staff members from across the College are eligible to participate in the Summer Reading Program.
We’ll be holding info sessions at McCabe throughout the month where you can learn more. Questions? Email Outreach Librarian Abbie Weil, aweil1@swarthmore.edu.

Summer Reading Recommendations |
|
|
The Libraries are compiling our annual summer reading list! This tradition, now in its 16th year, encourages members of our community to use the summertime to get in some extra pleasure reading. Check our our gallery
of lists from previous summers in this guide.
We’re asking students, faculty, and staff for:
|
| |
|
- A book you read this past year that you'd recommend, with a sentence or two about why you liked it
- A book you plan to read this summer (no review or comments required-–maybe it will end up being your recommendation for next year!)
-
Please send your book recommendations to Outreach Librarian Abbie Weil, aweil1@swarthmore.edu. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
-

Emily Higgs Kopin (she/her) is the head of digital collections strategy at the Swarthmore College Libraries, where she maintains digital infrastructures professionally and borrows a ton of books and movies personally. She has a B.A. in religious studies and an M.S. in information studies, and is often tempted to collect additional degrees. In her free time she also makes music, fiber art, and trouble. She is aided in such endeavors by her husband, her cat (Ganon, named for the Legend of Zelda villain), and her dog (Agnes, a retired racing greyhound).

What's the latest book you could not finish even though you thought you should? Well, I don't feel shame about not finishing books that just don't hold my attention. Life is too short, and there's so much out there to read! I often struggle with finishing popular nonfiction, as I prefer primary sources to be cited and presented in a way that the general audience just doesn't care about as much.
