FEBRUARY 2023

FROM THE PARENT PROGRAM DIRECTOR

February may be the shortest month of the year, but we are squeezing in many activities here on campus. Several important dates pertaining to the end of the year, registration for fall classes, housing and graduation are coming soon. In the meantime, you can stay up-to-date by following Lipscomb’s Academic Calendar.
The Lipscomb community has much to look forward to this spring. At the end of March, a large portion of our student body will participate in Singarama, and you are invited to join us for the event and a special parent dinner on April 1. We also are hosting events in Huntsville, Memphis, Atlanta, Chattanooga and Nashville this spring. I hope you are able to join us at one or several of these upcoming events. Watch your email for more information about events coming to your area.

Giving Day is this Thursday!
Giving Day is almost here!
We are excited to announce our Lipscomb Parents Challenge of 150 parents making a gift on Feb. 23—Giving Day 2023. A $10,000 challenge gift will be given when we hit our goal of 150 parent donors! Your donation of any amount to any department helps unlock the #10,000. If you are giving with your spouse, make sure you add him/her as a donor also to help us reach the goal of 150 parent donors.
Parents, no gift is too small. Not sure where to give? Give to your student’s major or where their passion lies. Your generosity is what allows Lipscomb to continue providing opportunities for your child. Click here visit the Giving Day website.
On the first Tuesday of each month at 10:55 a.m. CT, we have a prayer zoom at the same time our students are in the Gathering. The next one is Tuesday, March 7 at 10:55 a.m. CT. Please join us for a time of prayer and an opportunity to connect with other Lipscomb parents. During this time, we pray over our students, share praises and hear from a member of our Lipscomb faculty and staff. Zoom link: https://lipscomb.zoom.us/j/87948903644

New Academic Success Center resource portal available for undergraduates
The Academic Success Center has developed an ASC Resource Portal in Canvas for all undergraduate students. It contains learning and resource modules to help students navigate academic resources available on campus.
This easy-to-use portal includes information on the top research-based ways to study, time management, how to stay motivated, links to mental health services, tutoring services, advising information, and degree planning templates.
All undergraduate students should have the ASC tile on their Canvas dashboard. A graduate resource portal is currently in development.
Lipscomb's Health Sciences Center
builds on strong foundation

Health sciences education has been a vital part of Lipscomb’s academic program for more than a century. Building on this strong foundation, the university announced the launch of the Health Sciences Center (LUHSC) earlier this month. Elevating health sciences education to an academic center is a common model among the top universities in the nation. The establishment of the LUHSC allows for strategic growth in this important area and will serve as a hub that encompasses the delivery of education, research and community engagement.
The center will include a reorganization of the existing College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and its colleges and departments into two stand-alone entities — its existing College of Pharmacy and a newly formed College of Health Sciences, allowing for more focused programming and resources, with each college having its own dean, who will report to the provost. Tom Campbell will continue to lead the College of Pharmacy and a search is underway for the dean of the new College of Health Sciences. Dr. Quincy Byrdsong, vice provost for health affairs, will serve a key role in the LUHSC by working collaboratively with the two colleges to further health sciences education, research, and practice.
