Our newsletter is dedicated to celebrating the people and practices that make up the vibrant world of art, architecture, design, and museum studies at CC—bringing together students, staff, faculty, alumni, and anyone who shares our enthusiasm for creative endeavors.
This is our last issue before we break for the summer—see you back here in September!

Art of the boat students traveling down the San Juan River, March ’26.
|
|
| Block 7: Art of the Boat
Students traveled to remote southeastern Utah to the Yestermorrow Design School campus, where they lived and worked along the San Juan River while exploring the concept of building a wooden MacKenzie drift boat as both a printable matrix and a functional whitewater craft. The course engaged students in every phase of the process, from design development and hull carving to full boat construction, culminating in a multi-day river journey using the boats they built during the class.

CC hosted Big Ink! Artist Lyell Castonguay visited campus with his massive mobile press, The Big Tuna, inviting students to take part in the collaborative woodblock printing process. Participants carved individual blocks and later assembled them into a single, cohesive print, demonstrating the power of collective making and hands-on craftsmanship.
Don’t miss the photos from the Fashion Show and Open House, which capture the energy, creativity, and scale of this unique printmaking experience!

In our last issue, we asked you to weigh in on a question that sparks lively debate across studios and classrooms: What’s an “art rule” you think is total nonsense?
Jeremy Cashion, our Paraprofessional, shared a thoughtful response: “Here’s a rule I think is bogus: Art has to be beautiful. It’s become less and less prominent in recent times, but it still floats around and is perpetuated by ordinary viewers as often as academics and art snobs.”
Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts! We loved reading them and hope you’ll keep the conversation going in future issues.
Got something to say? We’re listening! Every issue, we’ll throw out a new question—and we’d love to hear your take. We’ll highlight responses in future editions of Wet Ink!
What piece of art—movie, painting, song, building—changed the way you look at the world?
Email your response to carfsten@coloradocollege.edu.
