We are so thankful for the community at Literacy Together. It's a joy to be part of a community that celebrates learning, growth, diversity, resilience, knowledge, independence, and connection. ๐ We are grateful for our students who show up each week, no matter how busy their lives get or how overwhelming the future can feel. We celebrate the beautiful tapestry of languages and stories that walk our offices and classrooms each day. As we prepare for our 40th anniversary in 2026, we are in awe of the decades of learning that have happened within these spaces. ๐

๐ From Guatemala to WNC: Ana's Story ๐ช
| |
Born in Guatemala, Ana left school after fourth grade to learn directly from her mother, a farmer. ๐ฑ When she arrived in the U.S., she worked in the restaurant industry, taking such good care of her patrons that, despite her limited English, they would wait for a table in her section.
When her son was born, Ana decided she wanted to understand his doctors and nurses without needing an interpreter. That decision led her to Literacy Together and her tutor, Patricia. ๐ฉโ๐ซ Their sessions are filled with shared stories, laughter, food talk, and workout tips. Through dedication and hard work, Ana is building more than language skills. She's found confidence. Now she accompanies friends and family members when an interpreter is needed. โค๏ธ
"I know what it feels like when you can't understand โ so nervous and sad. But I decided that I could do this, and so I did," Ana shares. "I tell my friends I have a teacher and she helps me a lot. They'll do the same for you." ๐

"I want to express my deepest gratitude for every moment of this journey. The achievements I've made here have been truly transformative, and I am immensely proud of the progress I've seen in myself. When I first joined the program, I honestly felt a significant lack of confidence, stemming from not having a diploma or GED. This opportunity has completely shifted my perspective.
Through divine guidance, I was so fortunate to work alongside two truly wonderful and supportive women โ [Rebecca] and Annie Laurie. You both have played such a crucial role in my story, and you will forever hold a special place in my heart. Your encouragement and belief in me have been invaluable.
I'm now embarking on a new path with the electrician's course, which is indeed very exciting. Your support, both in this program and in my decision to pursue this new journey, has been unwavering, and for that, I thank you both from the bottom of my heart." ๐
