New Mural Unveiled at Roy State Liquor Store
Last month, we were thrilled to attend the grand opening of the new State Liquor Store facility in Roy. Along with the new building, we’re excited to announce the completion of local artist Cole Eisenhour’s mural, Backbone of the Basin. Cole was inspired by Roy’s unique history to create a large-scale painted collage that highlights the area’s wildlife, agriculture, local businesses, and Hill Air Force Base. The bold colors enhance the facility’s interior and invite viewers to stop and appreciate all the different images portrayed in the mural. Congratulations to Cole and all others involved in this project!

Sneak Peek at New Mural in Moab
Excitement continued in December as muralist Lizzie Wenger made progress on our first public artwork in Moab! Located at the upcoming State Liquor Store facility, Lizzie’s mural captures the stunning red rock formations of the local natural landmark, Bridger Jack Mesa. By spotlighting the region’s unique landscape, the mural helps root the facility within the community and will be easily recognized and appreciated by viewers for years to come. Stay tuned for updates on the official opening!

Conservation Highlight: Southern Utah
Public artworks require ongoing maintenance and conservation due to many factors including exposure to weather, natural aging of materials, and dirt or dust buildup. We had the opportunity to bring in Denver-based painting conservator, Yasuko Ogino, to treat numerous artworks from our collection in St. George and Cedar City. Pictured above, Yasuko cleans and repairs the large-scale artwork, Probe, located at Southern Utah University. Routine maintenance like this preserves public artworks so they can be enjoyed by audiences well into the future.
