SUU Music Center Grand Opening

Last month, we were honored to attend the grand opening of the Southern Utah University George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Music Center. This facility features a stunning 510-seat concert hall, rehearsal space for instrumental ensembles, classrooms, and more.

We were especially excited to celebrate the addition of two new artworks to our collection: Tooza Design’s “Soundscape” and Heather Pattinson’s “Harmonic Drift.”

A suspended sculpture of layered wooden slats in shades of blue, orange, yellow, and green hangs in a bright glass-walled atrium

“Soundscape” is a visual expression of sound translated into form. Its geometry evokes the fluid rhythm of a soundwave and connects with the building as a music education space. The panels evoke the rich colors of the Cedar City landscapes.

A long abstract triptych hanging in a hallway shows flowing blue and turquoise forms, dotted with orange, yellow, and circular patterns.

Grounded in nature, “Harmonic Drift” maps the rhythms of a changing landscape. Layered patterns echo the frequencies of sound waves, drawing from earth, water, and atmosphere to merge into an abstracted terrain.

Together, the artworks complement each other and the facility itself–celebrating the intersection of music, movement, and art.
