Lasallian Youth Assembly in California
This year, DLSNC will be represented at the Lasallian Youth Assembly (LYA) at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California, by 10 students and two chaperones. The students at YLA pick one of three tracks (faith, service, or community) to focus on for the entirety of their week, culminating with the creation of a community event on the last day. Students then bring all of their skills and new ideas back to their schools. For example, last year Brandon Troncoso ‘26 learned about El Otro Lado (EOL) on the YLA trip and brought the idea back to DLSNC. With the help of the administration, he advocated for a DLSNC group to do an EOL trip, which, after lots of fundraising, happened this spring.
When asked, “From your two experiences on the YLA trip, what did you enjoy most?” Fallon Presley ‘27 expressed, “I enjoyed connecting with other people in the Lasallian community beyond DLSNC. At the end of the day, we are all just kids from different yet similar educational backgrounds. Being able to be in community with everyone really spoke to me about my future vocation, being a public relations manager.”
Volunteering as a Student Ambassador for CWS Summer Training
The CWS team offers volunteering opportunities to DLSNC students to support and assist at the professional training for the new ninth-grade class, which begins its DLSNC journey the last week of June. Ninth graders are able to receive direct training from students who have already participated in the CWS program, and they become part of the Knight community before school starts in the fall. The CWS Student Ambassadors who participate add to their resumes by gaining leadership experience focused on support, mentoring, and collaboration, as well as make connections with all of the professionals who volunteer during the week. Khadija Hussaini ‘27 commented, “Volunteering has helped me connect on a deeper level with my peers through all grade levels and expand my leadership skills.”
