MAGNIFY | SOMC Alumni Tailgate is Back

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025
The School of Medicine Columbia Alumni Engagement team has partnered with the USC Alumni Association and Gamecock Club to host this year's SOMC Alumni Tailgate on Saturday, Oct. 18 before the Gamecocks take on the Oklahoma Sooners for the first time at Williams-Brice Stadium.

FREE FOR ALL SOMC ALUMNI & THEIR FAMILIES!

Your tailgate ticket includes SOMC swag, snacks, water, sodas, (2) complimentary tickets to a cash bar, a DJ and TVs for entertainment, and a designated SOMC area, all conveniently located in Gamecock Park and just steps away from Williams-Brice Stadium.

  • This event will begin three hours prior to kickoff and conclude one hour prior to the game time. For example, with a noon kickoff the tailgate will be held from 9-11 a.m.
  • Football game tickets are not included and must be purchased separately.
  • Children 16 and under are free.

    More details will be shared soon for how to register and purchase game tickets.

Chris Gainey, MD ('12) married his medical school classmate, Amanda Lee, MD ('12) on May 31, 2025, in Travelers Rest, S.C. Chris completed his emergency medicine residency at Palmetto Health/USC SOMC where he's continued practicing, and was recently promoted to Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery/Emergency Medicine. Amanda completed her surgery residency at Hershey/Penn State and her fellowship in Trauma, Critical Care, Acute Care Surgery at Wake Forest. She's been practicing at MCG/Augusta University for the past four years and will join the Trauma/Acute Care Surgery group at Prisma Health Richland in October. Congratulations to the Gaineys!  
Trey Brown, MD ('00) was recently promoted to Clinical Professor in Pediatrics at the School of Medicine Columbia. Congratulations!
Heather Brown, MD ('08) was recently promoted to Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery/Emergency Medicine at the School of Medicine Columbia. Congratulations!

INVEST | MD White Coat & Stethoscope Support

Our annual MD White Coat and Stethoscope Sponsorship Campaign launched on August 21 and our fundraising goal this year is $21,700, which will enable us to fully fund white coats and stethoscopes for the MD Class of 2029. Currently, we have 59% funded with $12,870 raised.
