Congratulations to Karissa Schweizer '14 who is headed to the 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championship – her sixth time representing Team USA at a global championship and second World XC team. Schweizer earned her spot with a strong fourth-place finish in the women’s 10K at the 2025 USATF Cross Country Championships in Portland, running 34:16.2 to secure one of six automatic qualifying positions. The 2026 World Championships will be held on Saturday, January 10 in Tallahassee, FL, the first time the U.S. has hosted the event in 34 years.

Congratulations to Marena Bonanno ’18, a special-education teacher at Northview Middle School in Ankeny who has been awarded the Golden Apple Award, a prestigious honor recognizing outstanding educators across Iowa. Hector Salamanca ’11 is making history as Waterloo’s first Latino elected official. The City of Waterloo will formally administer the oath of office to newly elected city officials during a swearing-in ceremony on Dec. 31. Congratulations!
Congratulations to Marty Wadle ‘85 on a finish that will have people talking for many years. He led the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears to a huge comeback as they won the 2025 eight-player state championship! Read more here.

The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes those who embody the spirit and mission of DCHS. These alumni exemplify the values we strive to instill in each student and personify one or more of the following: distinction in professional life, service to their community, and/or inspiring others as positive role models. The Distinguished Young Alumni Award recognizes graduates who are under 40 years of age. These alumni have demonstrated outstanding leadership, philanthropic and/or service capabilities, and orchestrated exceptional and meaningful change as leaders in their profession or community.
Any member or friend of the DCHS community may nominate an alum. The deadline is Feb. 1, 2026. Please submit online.
