Esther Short Park Playground Reopens April 29

Everyone is invited to join the celebration as Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle cuts the ribbon on Vancouver’s newest playground at Esther Short Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29. Explore the fully inclusive play equipment and enjoy a stroll or roll through the park to check out the new gazebo and finished stage improvements. While you’re there, be sure to pick up a free raffle ticket for your chance to win wonderful local products from the Vancouver Farmers Market.

Vancouver is serious about protecting the planet, leading the way in our commitment to become carbon neutral citywide by 2040. This April, join us in celebrating Earth Day every day! 🌎

Three Ways We're Doubling Down on Litter Pick Up

Through working partnerships, we're leading the way in cleaning up litter and illegal dumping throughout Vancouver. In 2022: (1) Our Homelessness Assistance and Resources Team (HART) doubled its impact, cleaning up more than 440 tons of solid waste from active and abandoned encampments. (2) The City, in partnership with volunteers, cleaned up nearly 13 tons of litter and debris along 26 highway on and off ramps thanks to a one-time grant from the State Department of Ecology. (3) Talkin' Trash, a Share program supported in part by the City cleaned up nearly 280 tons of litter and debris. This program not only improves community health and livability, it also provides employment opportunties to those who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

Lend a Hand in Honor of Earth Day 🌲

It's no accident Vancouver has been named a "Tree City USA" since 1989! Each year community members give thousands of volunteer hours to help create a healthy, clean place to live, work and play. Join us April 12 for an Arbor Day celebration tree planting, or on April 22 for one of two Earth Day volunteer events, including the planting of a new learning garden at The Downs Neighborhood Park or a litter clean up at Bagley Woods.

Get Out and Enjoy Vancouver's Green Scene

With over 2,200 acres of park land, 28 natural areas and more than 20 miles of trails – it's no surprise Vancouver was named one of the "Best Cities for Outdoor Activities" in America.  And it's only getting better! This year, we're opening two new, inclusive playgrounds at Esther Short and Marshall Community Parks and kicking off construction on a third inclusive playground at Fruit Valley Park. Construction also kicks off on a new play area, pickleball courts and more upgrades at Oakbrook Park.
