3) Thanks to the generosity of Mary and Tim Boyle and Columbia Sportswear, the original element of DLSNC’s uniform was branded zip-up fleeces. The Class of 2005 was the first to receive fleeces, and it happened a few days before the students attended College Day at the Convention Center. As the Knights arrived and checked in with their faculty chaperones, they carried themselves differently. Students from other schools came in jeans and tees, while our students showed up in professional attire, all sporting the black fleeces with pride. Subsequently, some faculty referred to them as "the magic fleeces." The Columbia fleeces, magic or not, continue to serve as a key part of the DLSNC uniform. Thank you, Mary and Tim!
4) DLSNC’s original home, the former Queen of Peace church and parish school on N. Delaware Street, had some attractive features. For example, there was a student break room with a pool table. It also had some not-so-great features, such as a parking lot that always flooded when it rained. As the school grew, adding a grade each year for the first four years, it quickly became apparent that the facilities would only serve as the home of Knight Nation for a limited time. Thus, the student break room was short-lived, transitioning into classroom use after 2002.
5) DLSNC faculty had to get creative to do their jobs in the Delaware building. The school's first biology lab included a "wet table" for demonstrations. The teacher connected a hose to a spigot outside the classroom window. Inside, water drained from the “wet table” into a Home Depot bucket.
