PURIM EXTRAVAGANZA RSVP
Gan Rimon (kindergarteners) are bringing the Purim story to life through cross-curricular learning, combining Judaics with English and math. In King Achashverosh’s castle, they’re crafting Megillah finger puppets while sequencing the Purim story, creating groggers while exploring sound and counting, and building hamantaschen shapes out of popsicle sticks while recognizing triangles and discussing their significance. Through hands-on activities, our students are deepening their understanding of Purim while building essential literacy and math skills!
In preparation for Purim, our first and second graders created their own Megillat Esther in Moreh Itay's Hebrew class (The biblical Book of Esther that is read on Purim. It tells the story of Queen Esther, Mordechai, and Haman, describing how Esther and Mordechai thwarted Haman's plot to destroy the Jewish people in ancient Persia.) Students wrote the story in their own words, paired it with illustrations, and designed it to roll like a real scroll. This hands-on activity deepened their connection to tradition, and they’re excited to share their Megillot at the AHA Purim Extravaganza and community Purim events!
In EC3, our Creative Curriculum brings learning to life through hands-on Purim centers! Zach used gems and buttons to form the letter “T” for Timothy Tiger on kinetic sand, reinforcing early literacy. Charlotte “baked” cookies with sand and gems, strengthening fine motor skills and creativity. Ann rolled playdough into hamantaschen, connecting to holiday traditions. Then, combining the Creative Curriculum Clothing Unit and Purim costumes, EC3 made "Granny Glasses" and used their nap blankets to become grannies - just like in Bluey! Each child designed their own unique pair, creating patterns and personal touches to make them special.  Join us in costume for the EC Purim Program tomorrow at 11:30 AM. Please register at addlestone.org/purim!
Our second graders explored engineering and math through a hands-on airplane STEAM experiment! They designed paper airplanes, tested modifications like tape and paper clips, then measured flight distances in both meters and feet. This fun, hands-on learning reinforced problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking. Reminder to register for 2025-2026 Celebrating a Year of Steam by tomorrow at addlestone.org/registration
