VOIS Spring Concert
Voices of Inner Strength Gospel Choir Spring Concert 2025

Join the Emory University Office of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL) and the Voices of Inner Strength Gospel Choir (VOIS) for our annual Spring Concert. VOIS offers a space for soul healing and reflection through worship music of many different Christian genres. Parking is free on Saturdays at Emory’s Oxford Road and Peavine parking lots.
Food will be provided immediately after the concert.

Join the Emory Hindu Chaplaincy in observing spring Navratri as we honor the divine feminine Emory students, staff, and faculty are welcome to drop by the Emory Interfaith Center to take darshan make offerings, and pray. Daily worship, arti, and darshan will take place on all weekdays starting from March 31 to April 4.
Please note the evening worship on April 4 will take place at the Cannon chapel as part of regular Arti programming.

Ramadan Kareem and Mubarak! 
The Muslim month of Ramadan spans March 1-March 29, 2025. During this time, many Emory Muslim students, faculty, and staff will be observing with daily fasting from dawn through the sunlight hours and nightly iftar communal prayers and dinner.
On Atlanta campus, Emory Muslim Life, MSA, GMSC, and other sponsors will host weeknight Ramadan Iftars with fast-breaking, call to prayer, prayers, and a halal buffet dinner. Emory Muslim students, faculty, and staff do not need to register, but guests should register by emailing the Muslim Chaplain Ustadh Dr. Rahimjon Abdugafurov at rahimjon.abdugafurov@emory.edu. The Emory University Office of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL) is a resource available for Emory students, faculty, and staff members for support in times of loss and grief. We offer opportunities for pastoral care and conversation; support with planning memorial services and vigils; and referrals to other resources to assist the community with grieving and healing.

Maury Allums Featured Panelist
Emory OSRL Recap: Music Director Maury Allums on "Liturgy and Worship" Panel at Bandy Preaching Conference
On Wednesday, March 26, our own Maury Allums, University Chaplaincy Music Director, was a featured panelist for a session on “Liturgy and Worship” at the 2025 Bandy Preaching Conference at Candler School of Theology. Maury was able to share his experiences as a music minister for Emory Beloved Community Protestant Worship and director of the Emory Voices of Inner Strength gospel choir to illuminate the power of not only music in Christian worship, but relationship and inclusivity in service of the conference theme, “Sacred Symphonies: The Word and Song.” Maury was included as part of a slate of more than twenty ministers, musicians, scholars, artists, and worship planners assembled by Rev. Dr. Teresa L. Fry-Brown for the event, which included concert, worship, lectures, panel discussions, and breakout sessions. The Rev. Dr. Lisa Weaver, executive minister of The Riverside Church in New York City, was the featured lecturer and preacher in worship.

Emory Beloved Community: Lent

The season of Lent is a season of fasting and preparing our hearts for Holy Week, culminating in Easter. Lent began as a season of preparation for those who would be baptized as Christians on Easter. Through prayer and fasting, they prepared both their body and soul for the sacrament of baptism.
Today, we follow in this tradition by fasting or taking on a spiritual practice from Ash Wednesday through Good Friday. I invite you to consider a spiritual practice for this season. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to me at mhend25@emory.edu.

Dr. Mary Frances Berry, University of Pennsylvania Geraldine R. Segal Professor of American Thought Emerita, is an esteemed civil rights activist and scholar of African American History and US Constitutional Law. She served as chairperson of the US Commission on Civil Rights, demanding equal rights and liberties for all Americans during four presidential administrations.

Office of Respect: Take Back The Night

Take Back the Night (TBTN) is the oldest worldwide movement to stand against sexual violence in all forms. Invited to submit proposals for artistic expression - spoken word, dance, singing, or visual art - to be a part of the event. Applications will close on March 17, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. and are available here.
The Emory Office Of Respect is also collecting anonymous student survivor stories that will be read by a participating Emory staff member. Anonymous stories can be submitted here.

Sounding Spirit Festival
April 4-5, Emory University
Have you ever wanted to know more about the origins of American popular music? We invite you to the Sounding Spirit Singing School, where you’ll learn about Southern sacred music, which has influenced everything from gospel to blues and pop. Three events are open to the public at no charge.
You can also visit “Singing the Sacred,” an exhibit at Pitts Theology Library that features Southern vernacular songbooks published between 1850 and 1925. These songbooks reflect the musical traditions of various religious groups, as well as changes in publishing methods, sacred music styles, and society in general. Learn more here

Tam Institute for Jewish Studies: Film Screening: Bunchi
Tuesday, April 15, 6:30 p.m., White Hall 205
Join the Tam Institute for a free, public screening of Bunchi, a 32-minute drama in Hebrew and Amharic, depicting how an Ethiopian-Israeli mother grapples with traditional gender roles while striving to save her family from a worsening crisis. The film touches on themes of motherhood, immigration, and cultural identity.  Director Esti Almo Wexler will also share her experiences as an Ethiopian-Israeli filmmaker. Register here.
