🩷💜💙 Message from bicon, Priya Sivaraj – facilitator of the Bi+ sub-group
It’s September, and we all know what that means, the jasmine is starting to bloom and bisexuals remove their invisibility cloaks and get a week to toot their horn about who they are once again! This is my ninth Bi+ Visibility Day at the University of Sydney, and I’ve had the honour and delight of participating in many different types of commemorations over the years, from panel discussions to PowerPoint parties to poetry readings.

It has been a joy to connect with so many wonderful bi+ people across campus through these events and have an outlet to share about the unique issues that affect us both within and outside of the LGBTQ+ community, including damaging misconceptions, higher rates of relational abuse, and poor mental health outcomes.
Today (as with every day of my life), I will be especially enjoying all my favourite bi+ things – listening to Frank Ocean, sitting in my desk chair in a completely unhinged, physio non-approved way and replaying Hannah Einbinder’s Emmy’s speech.

|
I hope everyone will join me in reminding themselves that they are valid, regardless of their choice of partner and that as many of you as possible will get the response from your colleagues and loved ones that I do after nine years of making my bisexuality professionally visible – that (lovingly) no one cares.
🩷💜💙 About the Bi+ Sub-group
One of the most wholesome results of our bi+ awareness activities over the years has been the formation of our Bi+ Catch-up group. We try to meet bi-monthly, and it’s a safe and warm space for bi+ people of all experiences to come together, share stories, yap about pop culture, and provide a forum for advice and reassurance on relationships and the unique ways we experience the LGBTQ+ community.
We have a very informal Teams chat for our group, and we also promote our catch-ups through the Pride Network mailing list. If you'd like to know more or join our chat group, please email pride.network@sydney.edu.au

BiCONIC: Bi+ Visibility Day Celebration! |
Bi+ Visibility Day is a chance to celebrate everyone under the beautiful bi+ umbrella (bisexual, pansexual, queer, and all multi-gender attracted identities), and to share our pride, joy, and connection with each other. It’s a day to embrace everything vibrant and unique about our community and dance the night away while we’re at it!
This celebration is for the whole family, the bi+ community, our partners, friends, and the broader LGBTQIA+ community, because bi+ pride is even better when we share it.
