   SPRING BREAK

The midpoint of the semester is Friday, March 6. Then Spring Break begins and runs from Monday, March 9, through Sunday, March 15. The university will be open Monday through Friday, but classes will not be in session any of the days of Spring Break.

Make sure you check next week’s hours for the dining halls, the University Union, Pohl Rec Center and Willis Library before you head over. Also, check out the modified DCTA bus schedule during the break. If you are staying on campus, enjoy some Spring Break Crafts from noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, through Friday, March 13, in the University Union, Room 214.

UNT Weekly will return to your inbox Wednesday, March 18. Have a safe and restful break, Eagles!

   REGALIA TIME

Time is running out to order your Spring 2026 Commencement regalia if you’re a graduating doctoral student — order online directly from Jostens by Friday, March 19. Bachelor’s and master’s candidates have until Wednesday, April 1 to buy directly from Jostens or from Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 17 to buy in the Barnes & Noble UNT bookstore.

Be aware: the store inventory of available sizes will decrease as commencement approaches, so purchase early for the best size selection.

Every graduating student deserves the chance to celebrate the huge academic accomplishment of commencement. But it’s difficult to celebrate if you don’t have the funds for a cap and gown. The Dean of Students office maintains the Mean Green Gowns for Grads program to support low-income and first-generation students with free graduation cap and gown rentals.

The program is donation-based and continues to grow through the generosity of students, alumni and the community. Bachelor’s gowns are available on a limited basis with some options for master's and doctoral candidates. The application process ends Saturday, March 29.

   AWARD SEASON

The 2025-26 Eagle Awards are coming up, and it’s time to submit nominations! UNT’s premier celebration recognizes student leaders, student organizations and faculty members with awards such as Student Org of the Year, Advisor of the Year and — the most prestigious award — the Golden Eagle, which requires an application.

Don’t wait to apply. The application has specific submission criteria, so give yourself time to gather everything needed. All applications and nominations must be submitted by Saturday, March 29. Come out and celebrate from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 with the red carpet and ceremony in the University Union Lyceum.

   MAKEUP AND MARKETING

UNT alumna and Texas native Amy Louise O’Neil comes from a family of opera and acting royalty. After chasing her cosmetology dreams in Chicago, she realized that she yearned for a career where she could explore all her interests. She moved back to Texas and enrolled at UNT, majoring in integrative studies with a focus on music, business and communications. After graduation, she joined the Dallas Opera, where she uses her love for makeup, music and theater to her advantage.

Read more about how she uses her role as social media manager to make opera more accessible.
