Sac State partners with UFC legend to launch groundbreaking Combat U
President Luke Wood last week announced the creation of a new program that will provide students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, a pathway to education through combat sports.
Combat Sports and Martial Arts University, or Combat U, is a partnership between the University and UFC Hall of Famer Uriah Faber. The first-of-its-kind program will offer students the opportunity to train under world-class athletes and compete in wrestling, muay thai, jiu jitsu, and boxing – all while working toward their Sac State degree.
“We’re doing this because we’re creating a pathway to professional sports for those who are interested in combat sports,” Wood said. “We’re using this as an opportunity to create access to college for people who would never go to college, first-generation, low-income students. We want them to know they are college material. We’ll fight for you to make sure you create a better life for yourself and your family.”
