Residency program boosts training, support for future special educators
The new Sacramento Metro Special Education Teacher Residency (SMSTR) scholarship program, launched in the fall, pairs Sac State special education credential students with Sacramento-area teachers for a year of observation, training, and mentorship.
The program is designed to give students a more meaningful and supportive training experience than more traditional internships provide.
Funded primarily by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, SMSTR guarantees students a job after they complete the program, providing local districts with highly trained and motivated teachers.
