New scholarship supports communication majors
|
Barbara Kelly Penn has made a $100,000 gift to establish the Alice G. Kelly Scholarship in honor of her late mother, Alice Kelly. The scholarship supports broadcast majors in the Department of Communication who demonstrate financial need.
Junior broadcast student Dominique Colbert was named the first recipient of the Alice G. Kelly Scholarship. As one of multiple siblings, Colbert said she learned from experience that communication is key, and it became the core of her passion for pursuing this career.

The Professional Clothing Closet will open at the end of October for UTA students who are in need of professional attire for career and internship interviews. It will be located inside the Maverick Pantry.

UTA Bookstore is having a clearance sale! Choose from UTA apparel and Stanley mugs ranging from 25-75% off. Sign up for emails or texts from the UTA Bookstore to receive a 10% discount. Staff and faculty receive a 10% discount on all Bookstore and Bookstore Starbucks purchases when they show their Mav IDs.

| New campus reflection room
|
A larger campus reflection room for students and employees opened Monday, Oct. 9. The new location is CAPPA South B at 706 Greek Row Dr. Mavericks can access the northwest entrance using their Mav ID cards. Contact Student Organizations at 817-272-2963 for more information.

UTA students who speak a language in addition to English can test their proficiency to receive the Global Seal of Biliteracy, an internationally recognized micro-credential that conveys language proficiency. The test is offered in more than 40 languages through the Department of Modern Languages. Email proficiency@uta.edu for more information.

Are you interested in representing the student body? There’s no better way than to run for a student-elected office. Positions include homecoming king and queen, student government senators, UTA ambassadors, and student service fee allocation committee representatives. Elections are Oct. 23-24.
