President Cowley recognized for civic leadership

UTA President Jennifer Cowley received a national award for civic and community engagement on Wednesday from Campus Compact, a coalition of colleges and universities focused on higher education and strong communities.

 

“The resounding impact President Cowley has had throughout her career clearly demonstrates the myriad ways that dedicated, focused leadership can improve campus and community life and build a better future for us all,” said Bobbie Laur, president of Campus Compact. “President Cowley is an exemplar in her field, and we are honored to recognize her with this award.”

Gallery at UTA exhibit

There will be a reception for Solace in Painting: Reflecting on a Tumultuous Century tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 7, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Gallery at UTA. Curated by Assistant Professor Fletcher Coleman, the exhibit showcases the work of three Asian diasporic painters—Chao Sao-an (1905-98), Keisho Okayama (1934-2018), and Ann Phong (1957- ).

Mary Vaccaro

Author, distinguished professor travels for primary research

Mary Vaccaro, distinguished professor of art history, is on faculty development leave for the next three months, allowing her to conduct primary research in Rome for her book (under contract) about painter and draftsman Agostino Carracci. Dr. Vaccaro will soon serve as an invited visiting professor at the the Università degli Studi di Roma, "La Sapienza," one of the oldest and largest universities in Europe.

Concur, travel and expense at your fingertips, modernize, automate, unify

Travel taxation suspension deadline

After tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 7, all compliant travel expenses must be submitted through Concur by close of business on the 60th calendar day after the last day of travel. Failure to do so will result in taxes being withheld from the traveler's payroll check. If you have questions about travel, email travelservices@uta.edu.

Paper cutter safety precautions

Because using a paper cutter improperly or without a guard can cause injury, the UTA Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) is asking you to inspect the paper cutters within your office space and report any equipment that is damaged or missing safety features to your supervisor and EH&S. Read a safety alert from EH&S on workplace practices with paper cutters.

Cheer on the Lady Mavs

Wear pink and celebrate women in sports at the women’s basketball game today, Thursday, Feb. 6. The game against Utah Valley University will start at 6:30 p.m. at College Park Center. In support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, the Lady Mavs are competing against basketball teams around the country to see who can raise the most money for the fight against cancer.

The Center for Proposal Development will host an introductory session on the National Science Foundation's Faculty Early Career Development Program Monday, Feb. 10, from 1-3 p.m. online or in person in Room 303 of the Chemistry & Physics Building. The Center for Proposal Development and Greenwood Consulting will present an overview of the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program Thursday, Feb. 20, 12-1:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. This workshop is open to all UTA faculty, staff, or students interested in learning about the SBIR and STTR programs. RSVP now.

Clipchamp available to full-time employees soon

On Monday, Feb. 10, all full-time UTA faculty and staff will have access to Microsoft’s Clipchamp. Clipchamp allows users of all skill levels to create, edit, and share high-quality videos. Clipchamp is available for use in web browsers and on iOS.

Pack College Park Center

UTA's men's basketball team will take on Tarleton State University in a WAC game that will air nationally on ESPNU. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22. UTA Athletics is offering faculty and staff a chance to claim up to four free tickets, using promo code FS222.
