In September, Georgia Tech celebrated the dedication of George Tower and Scheller Tower, a new home for industrial engineering and business education, including the Center for Health and Humanitarian Systems (CHHS). The facility brings together the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) and the Scheller College of Business to encourage collaboration across departments and prepare future leaders to strengthen innovation in Georgia's economy and beyond.

| Health Systems Minor - Starting Fall 2026
|
ISyE launched a new minor in Health Systems which is open to undergraduates from all majors across Georgia Tech. The 15-credit-hour minor equips students with the analytical, modeling, optimization, and decision-making tools needed to address complex issues in healthcare delivery, public health, and health-related policy.
Through interdisciplinary coursework and electives that span health systems analytics and modeling, health policy and economics, machine learning and data science for health, and systems optimization, students will learn how to improve healthcare access, strengthen operations, and make better use of limited resources. On September 9th, CHHS collaborated with the Ga Tech Supply Chain and Logistics Institute to host Supply Chain Day. The event brought together 43 companies and 443 registered students interested in supply chain and logistics careers. In addition to supply chain organizations, we aim to connect students across the Georgia Tech ISyE with organizations applying systems and operations thinking to healthcare and humanitarian challenges, healthcare operations and analytics, consulting, payers, health tech, med device, public and global health. This collaboration puts both worlds in the same room, commercial and humanitarian, industry and impact.

Ph.D. candidate Abel Sapirstein, along with Harold R. and Mary Anne Nash Early Career Assistant Professor Lauren Steimle and Associate Professor Mathieu Dahan, published their paper "Paving the way for more accessible cancer care in low-income countries with optimization". They propose a mathematical model to improve geographic access to cancer care by considering both expansions to care facilities and improvements to road networks. Using Rwanda as a case study, the researchers show how planning these investments together could reduce patients’ travel times.
