| CMU Students Raise Over $33K for Turkey Earthquake Victims
| |
Carnegie Mellon University students and members of the CMU Turkish Student Society (TUSO) were interviewed by Pittsburgh's Action News 4 at the Swartz Center last week to share their fundraising efforts for the victims of the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. TUSO has raised over $33K so far. Among the members of TUSO is School of Computer Science student and Innovation Scholar, Deniz Birlikci.

The James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows program is highlighted in a recent story featured in Carnegie Mellon University News. Established in 2006, the program is an immersive, experiential learning pathway for future entrepreneurs, made possible by CMU alumnus James R. Swartz (Tepper 1966), founder and managing partner of Accel Partners.

Refiberd's Sarika Bajaj Featured: Why Some Tech Companies are Sticking With the Industry
For some, rising concerns about tech’s role in perpetuating environmental and social injustice have come to outweigh the prestige and padded paychecks associated with working in the industry. That has not detered CMU alumna Sarika Bajaj, co-founder of Refiberd, from entering the tech world. The 2020 VentureBridge participant, is developing technology that uses the reflected light from lasers shined on different types of fabric to determine the type and blend of the material.

| Apply to the VentureBridge Summer Accelerator!
The VentureBridge Summer Accelerator is a 12-week program that helps CMU startups by investing capital ($25K SAFE Note), providing office space in Silicon Valley, New York and Pittsburgh, as well as making introductions to mentors, experts and investors.
Eligible teams must have at least one CMU affiliated alumni founder. All applications must include a pitch deck and a two-minute pitch video. Applications are due by Friday, March 31, 2023 at midnight.
