We continue to improve the Business Hub to make it easier for entrepreneurs to register a business and for existing business owners to manage theirs. Recent updates include converting Help Center PDF guides into accessible webpages. These changes improve compatibility with screen readers, helping individuals with visual impairments more easily access information. A new Translate button has also been added, allowing users to view the site in more than 100 languages, making the Hub more accessible to our diverse communities.Â
Several new Quick Actions buttons have also been introduced to streamline common tasks. In addition to existing tools, Business Hub users can now:
|
- Apply for a federal employer identification number (FEIN/EIN)
- Certify diverse business status
- Explore funding options
- Get help with government contracting.

Starting in 2025, all registered businesses and nonprofits must file an Annual Report with the PA Department of State (DOS). This filing does not replace the Certificate of Annual Registration required annually for restricted professional limited liability corporations (PLLCs), limited liability partnerships (LLP), and limited liability limited partnerships (LLLPs).
Both forms can be filed electronically through the DOS Business Filing Services (BFS) system. For guidance, refer to the following help guides:

Farmers markets are a great way to support local growers and buy fresh, seasonal produce. A local favorite is Strites’ Orchard, a family-run farm and market located in Middletown, PA,  with more than 300 acres of sustainably grown fruits and vegetables. They offer Pick-Your-Own options, baked goods, and a full farmers market experience.
To find a market near you or view the full list of Pennsylvania farmers markets, check out the VISIT PA Farmers Market website.

On April 10, Director Leora Appleby participated in Shippensburg University’s Ship Tank—a student business pitch competition inspired by Shark Tank. Students had an opportunity to turn their bold and innovative ideas into real-world ventures by winning cash prizes ranging from $500-$2,000.
As one of the “sharks” on the judges’ panel, Leora joined a mix of university faculty, business leaders, and community entrepreneurs to evaluate eight student teams. From idea to pitch to applause, students walked away with real-world experience, feedback from professionals, and a head start on their entrepreneurial journey.

On May 1, Donald Poligone, Economic Development Consultant, attended the Boots to Business program to provide entrepreneurial education and training to veterans recently transitioning to civilian life. Donald shared guidance on registering a business in Pennsylvania, licensing requirements, and funding resources.
Veterans can explore and sign up for future sessions on the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) website.
